Previously slated for a Summer 2021 release, the Resident Evil Re:Verse multiplayer suite is now on track to go live sometime in 2022. Capcom formally announced the online offering earlier this year during the first Resident Evil Showcase broadcast. Originally, the experience was set to launch alongside Resident Evil Village; Capcom delayed Resident Evil Re:Verse’s rollout in April, however, without citing a reason.

Negative responses to the beta builds presumably served as the core reason for the postponement of Resident Evil Re:Verse’s release. Players weren’t too fond of the PvP mode’s myriad technical issues, bugs, and lack of worthwhile content. These various missteps seemed especially egregious since Capcom continued to tout the multiplayer experience as a celebration of Resident Evil’s 25-year history. By the time Re:Verse proves ready for the spotlight, though, fans will likely be celebrating the horror franchise’s 26th anniversary.

In a Twitter post shared on Resident Evil’s official page, Capcom announced a second Resident Evil Re:Verse delay. Now the RE Village’s multiplayer suite will go live on an unspecified date in 2022, as the development team needs more time to “deliver a smooth gameplay experience.” More launch-related details will surface at a later date, the message noted while also advising Resident Evil Village owners to keep track of their Re:Verse download code.

The protracted development period could very well work wonders for Resident Evil Re:Verse. Again, many of the issues that players flagged as troublesome during the betas were of the technical variety. It stands to reason, then, that Re:Verse requires more refinement, perhaps even a fresh coat of paint given critiques about the comic book-inspired graphical style, which users can disable via the settings menu.

Starring heroes and villains featured throughout the Resident Evil franchise, Re:Verse drops players into six-player deathmatches and tasks them with finding virus samples scattered around the map. Collecting the viruses unlocks damage bonuses and the like, but the real thrill emerges when a player dies. Depending on the number of samples collected prior to death, players will reanimate in the form of one of Resident Evil’s monstrous villains. It’s a neat premise that evidently needs a bit more time to reach its full potential.
