Resident Evil Village $1800 Collector’s Edition Includes Chris Redfield’s Coat
Japan is receiving an exclusive Resident Evil Village Collector’s Edition that comes packed with Chris Redfield’s coat; it’s pricey, too, costing 192,500 yen – the equivalent of about $1,800 USD. In addition to a standard version, Capcom has preorders up for three other Resident Evil Village special editions.
Fans can preorder Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7 Complete Bundle Edition, a digital bundle priced at $79.99 that grants access to RE7’s Gold Edition. At $69.99, the Deluxe Edition for RE Village packs in the game and a host of in-game extras, including a Found Footage RE7 Filter, The Tragedy of Ethan Winters Artwork, Safe Room Music, the “Village of Shadows” Difficulty, as well as other digital goodies. Finally, the $220 Collector’s Edition features every Deluxe Edition item and several physical bonuses. The latter includes a Chris Redfield figurine, steelbook case, collector’s box, poster of the game world, and art book.

Resident Evil fans in Japan are able to pre-purchase an even pricier special edition. As reported by TechnClub, the Complete Set Collector’s Edition boasts the high price of 192,500 yen (or $1,800). The product listing on Capcom’s online storefront shows that customers will gain access to every item in the regular Collector’s Edition, plus a real-world version of Chris Redfield’s “Buttonless Chester coat,” which seems a key part of the character’s latest design. Purchasing the coat by itself serves as another possibility, since it, too, is available to preorder on Capcom’s storefront, costing a grand total of 159,731 yen (about $1,540).
Admittedly, this is an exorbitant amount of money for what appears to be a regular wool coat. That it doesn’t even have buttons makes the pricing seem all the more egregious. Resident Evil fans who are in the market for a new coat and want to dress like their favorite character would probably be better served by scouring online stores for something that looks fairly similar.
The wait to see Chris Redfield and his expensive new coat in action is nearly at an end. Last week, Capcom hosted Resident Evil Showcase, a short digital event wherein the publisher revealed a new trailer, gameplay footage, and RE Village’s 2021 due date. After the showcase went live, Capcom unleashed the Maiden demo exclusively on PlayStation 5. A separate demo is slated to arrive sometime this spring for all platforms.
Resident Evil Village launches on May 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
