Warning: This article contains minor spoilers for Resident Evil Village.

New details from the Entertainment Software Rating Board reveal new terrifying details about the upcoming Resident Evil Village. The eighth numbered entry in the iconic survival horror franchise will act as a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, including the return of protagonist Ethan Winters.

Resident Evil Village looks set to maintain its predecessor’s first-person survival horror gameplay, which was a big change from the third-person perspective of past titles in the series. However, the game will also introduce elements, such as an ammo-supplying merchant and close-quarters combat attacks, which are more similar to 2005’s iconic Resident Evil 4. An upcoming demo for Village will let players get their hands on the game to experience its gameplay for themselves. While originally planned to release for only 24 hours, developer Capcom recently confirmed that the demo will be available for one week after its release on May 1. Capcom also recently released new details on Village‘s multiplayer mode, The Mercenaries.  In this mode, which is unlocked after beating the game’s story, players will work together to defeat hordes of enemies and advance through each level.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Entertainment Software Rating Board recently released its rating for Resident Evil Village, and the description reveals some details about the game. Unsurprisingly, the game has been rated “M” for blood, gore, intense violence and strong language. The ESRB’s description goes into more detail, revealing that players will be battling werewolves, ghouls, mutants and mechanical humanoids throughout the adventure. The game’s cutscenes contain further horrors, with characters being shot, impaled, chopped with machetes, and even having their hearts ripped out.

As Resident Evil Village‘s May 7 release draws closer, Capcom seems to be drumming up excitement through an alternate-reality game. The Resident Evil Twitter account recently posted a disturbing video consisting of static disruption and creepy environments. A string of numbers is also read aloud in the video, but their significance is unclear. An associated Reddit post points towards May 7 as a significant date, suggesting that more details about this ARG will be discovered when Resident Evil Village releases.
