Fans have been waiting to get stepped on by that tall lady in Resident Evil Village for a while and now they finally can. Regardless of whether one is a new player to the Resident Evil franchise enticed by the promise of oversized stilettoes, or a returning veteran, there’s a lot to love about the latest entry and a lot more than just tall ladies, too. The typical T-Virus zombies might be gone, but Village’s hero (and notable himbo) Ethan Winters will face werewolves, vampires, and more. What follows in his quest to save his daughter is an excellent mish-mash of the series’ greatest strengths. There is creepy atmosphere galore and abundant gore. There is tense combat and clever puzzles. Like Resident Evil 4, there is once again a delightfully odd merchant to pal around with.

Altogether, it is an excellent package and a thrilling continuation of the series, building off of what worked in its predecessors and making some new choices, too. And while it’s not the longest game, there is plenty of reason to go back into Village as well. Besides re-experiencing the horror, there are places and people that can be entirely missed in one’s first playthrough. Thankfully, the game does have a New Game Plus mode that is well worth checking out.

What you keep in New Game Plus in Resident Evil Village

In Resident Evil Village’s New Game Plus mode, players will find that quite a bit from their first run carries over. Everything in Ethan’s briefcase, for example, will be in his briefcase immediately once again. This means all items are kept, along with all weapons and their upgrades. Similarly, every treasure previously found will carry over as well as Ethan’s stockpile of Lei (the in-game currency) and all earned Challenge Points. In addition, all progress on recipes will be kept so players can pick up where they left off for any recipes being worked on with the Duke. The main things that don’t carry over are key items used to progress the game.

To start a file in New Game Plus mode, simply select the completed save file that the game was previously finished on. This will allow the player to carry over all the above-mentioned goodies and select a new difficulty as well if desired. Completing the game once will unlock the “Village of Shadows” difficulty, which is quite the challenge and quite the incentive to head back to Village—why not do so with the perks of New Game Plus?
