According to Xbox executive Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, Resident Evil Village is slated for a Game Pass launch. Rumblings of a potential Game Pass release for RE Village began making the rounds earlier this week when a Polish website stumbled across an Xbox Store listing where the horror title bore an “included in Game Pass” badge. It didn’t take long for such findings to make their way to Reddit, prompting many to believe Xbox and Capcom would have big news to share in the near future.

Capcom shipped the eighth mainline Resident Evil title in May 2021 to widespread acclaim from critics and players alike. A sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7, RE Village followed Ethan Winters to a remote village in Eastern Europe as he tracked down the whereabouts of his infant daughter, Rose. Ethan quickly found himself biting off more than he could chew, with werewolves, eerily alluring vampires, and other types of strange horrors lurking around every corner of the isolated village. Though RE Village’s impressive sales figures indicate that a sizable audience has already experienced its many terrors, hopes were high that even more people would soon feel inclined to step into Ethan’s shoes.

Xbox executive Larry Hryb recently took to Twitter to address rumors that Resident Evil Village could soon land on Game Pass. Hryb responded to a tweet by Wccftech, clarifying that the Microsoft Store listing the publication cited in its post was nothing more than an “error.” Apparently, the since-removed Game Pass badge on RE Village stemmed from an error with how to display discount information. Hryb added that there are currently no plans for the most recent Resident Evil entry to launch on the Xbox’s ever-popular Game Pass service. Read the full response from Larry Hryb in the following Twitter post:

Given the wording of Larry Hryb’s statement, it is clear Resident Evil Village will not become available on Xbox Game Pass anytime soon. At the time of writing, though, the title is on sale via PSN, marked down from $59.99 to $29.99 from now until April 14. It stands to reason that an Xbox sale in the not-too-distant future will discount the price of RE Village, as well.

The month of March proved a solid one for Xbox Game Pass offerings, thanks to additions such as indie darling Tunic. And this month of noteworthy releases for the subscription service isn’t over, since immersive sim Weird West will join the Game Pass lineup tomorrow, March 31. Xbox has yet to announce which titles will hit the service in April.

Resident Evil Village is playable now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
