Capcom announced Resident Evil Village will run in 4K at 60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, while the ray tracing-enabled option targets 4K at 45fps. Director Morimasa Sato previously confirmed in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine that RE Village features performance and graphics modes, though his comment at the time avoided any specifics.

However, the crew from Capcom had plenty to share yesterday during the latest Resident Evil Showcase. The publisher covered a lot of ground throughout the brief digital event, notably unveiling a brand-new gameplay trailer that shows Ethan Winters exploring Castle Dimitrescu and the nameless village it towers above. At long last, the company let loose details about the next demo as well, which PS4 and PS5 owners can pre-load right now. Fans of the 25-year-old franchise were also treated to a good look at the Netflix CG anime series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. Once the showcase concluded, Capcom shared a few more interesting pieces of information, such as specifics about RE Village’s graphics and performance options on consoles.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

An image on the official Resident Evil website relayed by Wario64 breaks down every graphics and performance option across all consoles. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X can hit 4K HDR/60fps, for instance. With ray tracing turned on, these two consoles target 4K HDR/45fps. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S without ray tracing can achieve 1440p HDR/45fps; the ray tracing mode drops the frame rate down to 30fps. And base models of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One target 900p at 45fps and 900p at 30fps, respectively. See the breakdown below:

Of course, questions now abound about the middle-ground 45fps frame rate. Unlike Spider-Man: Miles Morales‘ Performance RT mode, which targets ray tracing at 1080p/60fps, RE Village’s ray tracing-enabled 45fps mode seems as though it aims to split the difference between higher resolution and a higher frame rate. Since the latest RE entry isn’t half as kinetic as Insomniac’s Spider-Man adventure, 45fps could prove an interesting solution for players who want the best of both worlds in terms of graphics and performance.

Capcom unveiled Resident Evil Village last summer during Sony’s PS5 showcase. The publisher just began sharing more concrete details about the first-person horror title in recent months. Fortunately, the wait to explore all the titular village has on offer is nearly at an end.

Resident Evil Village hits PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on May 7.
