Resident Evil Village’s Lady Dimitrescu Actress Didn’t Expect Internet Fame

Maggie Robertson, the actress that brought Resident Evil Village’s fan favorite boss Lady Dimitrescu to life, has expressed her surprise at her sudden internet fame in an interview. As a classically trained actress, the latest installment in Capcom’s beloved survival horror franchise marks her first foray into voice work and motion capture in the gaming industry.

Lady Dimitrescu was first revealed during a Resident Evil showcase in January, sending the internet into a frenzy of memes and artwork about the 9’6” tall character. Being one of the four secondary antagonists in Resident Evil Village, her role is not as expansive as fans had initially hoped, but this did not affect her standing as one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise thus far.

Maggie Robertson recently shed some light on her feelings regarding her newly found internet fame as Resident Evil Village‘s Lady Dimitrescu in an interview with Santa Monica Studio’s Alanah Pearce. Robertson did not expect the overwhelming reception to her Lady Dimitrescu performance, as she had “no clue” as to what she had originally auditioned for, stating, “My entire journey in this game has been one that I characterize as general cluelessness.” It was only when she arrived at the game’s first table read that she suspected she was part of something big. She explained, “I just went home and tried to figure out through context clues what frickin’ game I was in, and then figured out it was Resident Evil, and my mind was blown!” While she doesn’t consider herself a gamer, she confirms that she had heard of the franchise before.

Robertson also credited Nicole Tompkins (who played Daniela, one of Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters) as the person that alerted her to her internet popularity, having sent her a text message stating, “By the way, you’re blowing up.” Thanks to the countless artworks and cosplays of Lady Dimitrescu, Robertson has now fulfilled two items on her “artistic bucket list,” which she expected would be checked off much later on in her life. Saying that “[the gamers] got me,” her two bucket list items were to see fan art and cosplays of one of her roles online. Although the actress states that she is new to social media, she revealed she was very aware of Resident Evil fans’ discourse around wanting Lady Dimitrescu to step on them, telling Pearce that “for the most part, they’re hilarious.”

Maggie Robertson’s outstanding performance as Lady Dimitrescu has certainly captured the love and imagination of Resident Evil fans, and it will certainly be difficult to create another character that could possibly rival her overwhelming popularity. There is no doubt that Capcom will have a tough act to follow for the next iteration in the franchise.
