A fan’s 2.5D reimagining of a Lady Dimitrescu scene in Resident Evil Village makes Ethan Winters’ first encounter with the Lady and her brood a little less terrifying. The internet’s fascination with RE Village’s Lady Dimitrescu began months before the eighth mainline Resident Evil entry even hit store shelves. Most were taken by her beauty, of course, but the Lady’s gargantuan height (9’6″) drummed up quite a bit of online hype, as well.

Despite becoming the face of Resident Evil Village in the months leading up to launch, Lady Dimitrescu doesn’t actually play too major of a role in the overarching narrative. Ethan only encounters her one-on-one during the Castle Dimitrescu section, which takes place early in the game and lasts for a limited period of time. Fans of the first-person horror title haven’t given up hope, though, with many theorizing that Lady Dimitrescu may take center stage in RE Village’s DLC expansion. And while the wait for the mystery post-launch content persists, some series faithful have taken it upon themselves to give Lady Dimitrescu her due.

Talented Resident Evil fan and Redditor the-robins-nest managed to recreate Ethan’s first RE Village encounter with Lady Dimitrescu in an animated video. Better still, the artist used 2.5D graphics, doing away with the game’s photorealistic graphics in favor of something a little more old school. It works flawlessly, too. Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters don’t appear as horrifying in this reimagining, yet small touches like Ethan’s eye movement during the blood-sucking scene truly sell the tension. The same holds true for the way the-robins-nest animates one daughter’s wave goodbye to Ethan and another’s interest in his blood being denoted by tiny heart emojis. Of all the Lady Dimitrescu-inspired fan creations, this 2.5D version of her introduction in Resident Evil Village seems a cut above the rest. Again, the small details help seal the deal, though every other facet of the-robins-nest’s incredible work warrants praise, as well. It’s also neat that nearly a year after the game’s launch, Lady Dimitrescu continues to occupy the hearths and minds of many.

A direct sequel to Resident Evil 7, RE Village follows protagonist Ethan Winters to a strange community as he searches for his daughter, Rose. As one would expect, several obstacles stand in the character’s way, a few of which come in the form of vampires, werewolves, and all manner of other wild beasties. There’s no telling what horrors await the Winters family next.
