Reportedly, Resident Evil Village‘s file size on PlayStation 5, without the day one patch, will clock in at just over 27GB – less than half of the Xbox download size. The Microsoft Store listing recently confirmed RE Village will weigh 50.02GB; this amount of required free space takes into account both the single-player campaign and the RE:Verse multiplayer component.

35GB will be on reserve for the haunting new story arc in RE Village, while the online mode will demand the extra 15GB of space. At present, it’s unclear as to whether or not players may have the option of choosing to install or uninstall RE:Verse. Regardless, news about the 50GB download size caused quite the stir, given that RE Village necessitates twice as much hard drive space as its 2017 predecessor, Resident Evil 7. It’s worth noting, however, that this does correlate with Capcom’s recent reveal that RE Village is larger in scope than RE7. Still, players were hoping next-gen hardware and advancements in compression would greatly reduce download sizes on the new systems.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reputable news account PlayStation Game Size recently shared a Twitter post outlining the pre-load details for Resident Evil Village’s PlayStation 5 version. Minus the day one patch, RE Village will reportedly clock in at 27.325GB; players can expect pre-loading to become available two days ahead of launch on May 5, the account revealed in the following tweet:

Since PlayStation Game Size’s post doesn’t specify if the 27GB counts towards the single-player and multiplayer components combined, it’s difficult to discern what exactly pre-purchasers will be downloading come May 5. As such, while it may seem as though PS5’s technology could allow for a smaller download size compared to Xbox iteration of RE Village, that much presently remains unconfirmed.

Resident Evil Village’s launch is fast-approaching, but there’s still plenty that Capcom hasn’t shown. Most notably, fans are patiently awaiting the horror title’s second demo, which the publisher promised would release across all platforms this spring. The first demo, dubbed “Maiden,” released exclusively on PlayStation 5 earlier this year, allowing players to get a closer look at the mansion inhabited by the enigmatic Lady Dimitrescu and her equally mysterious daughters.
