When Restaurant: Impossible premiered on January 11, 2011, Chef Robert Irvine turned failing restaurants into successful ones in two days, and we’ve gathered information about the celebrity chef’s background. While he’s well-known due to his Food Network appearances (the network is home to Kids Baking Championship and other popular shows), fans want to learn more about the British chef. He’s been at the helm of Restaurant:Impossible for ten years.

Robert was born on September 24, 1965, in Salisbury, England. He didn’t begin his culinary career until he enlisted in the UK’s Royal Navy when he was 15 years old. After he completed his culinary training, he served aboard Her Majesty’s Royal Yacht Britannia. He also performed consultant work in Bali, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City. Then, he shifted gears by becoming an executive chef for cruise ships and dining establishments.

While he was involved in the culinary industry, he didn’t get his first Food Network show until 2007, when his show Dinner: Impossible premiered. The show was on the air for three years before its cancellation. It was later brought back in the spring of 2021 for four episodes. According to his Food Network profile, Robert has also hosted (or made guest appearances on) some of the best cooking competition shows, such as All-Star Academy, Worst Cooks In America,Guy’s Grocery Games, and many more. Despite being perceived as a tough guy on Restaurant Impossible, Robert also has a soft side. This is because he has two beloved daughters, Annalise and Talia, from his first marriage to Karen Irvine. Ultimately, that marriage didn’t work out and he has been married to pro wrestler Gail Kim since 2012. The couple met on the set of Dinner: Impossible. The couple has been living in Tampa, Florida since 2013.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, viewers were not sure if the show would make it back on the air, but it looks like things went back to normal on the show, with the appropriate safety measures in place. The production team made sure that the cast and crew were as safe as possible. The show made the move to Discovery+ (just like Spring Baking Championship) for a brief while, but thanks to the fans, it made its way back to Food Network. It looks like Restaurant: Impossible is now there to stay.

Restaurant Impossibleairs Thursdays at 9pm EST on Food Network.
