Revenge was inspired by the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, and like the book, vendetta was the focus of this TV show. All the characters had a hidden agenda and tried to achieve their objectives regardless of who they hit along the way.

Over four seasons, viewers saw many of the characters die and come back to life, so there was always surprise in the plot to increase the intrigue and the thirst for revenge of the protagonists. Throughout the story, some characters received the ending they deserved, while others did not fit with the fate they suffered.

10 Fitting Ending: Victoria Grayson

Victoria had a terrible past and as a result, she became an icy, cruel, selfish, and manipulative woman. She was a rather charismatic antagonist who allowed the revenge of Emily/Amanda to escalate.

In the final episode, Victoria and Emily faced each other for the last time. Emily was desperate to end her revenge and Victoria seemed to have nothing to lose. David shot Victoria to prevent Emily from becoming a murderer, but as expected, the Grayson matriarch fought to the last breath, shooting Emily before she died.

9 Deserved Better: Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke

Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke planned revenge for her father’s death, step by step, before arriving in The Hamptons. Despite all the bad things she does over four seasons, Emily managed to get viewers usually on her side and even to love the character.

In the last episode, Charlotte approved the donation of her mother’s heart so that Emily could live, meaning that the protagonist of Revenge would spend her whole life with a part of Victoria inside her; an interesting twist, to conclude a vendetta that took away more than it gave her. On the other hand, marrying Jack was a wrong decision, because the character fits in a revenge conclusion, but not in a completely happy ending.

8 Fitting Ending: Nolan Ross

Throughout the series, Nolan was Emily’s faithful companion. He revealed the story about the conspiracy against her father and helped her in all the plans. Unfortunately, Nolan was unlucky in love and suffered from the loneliness that was always present in his life.

However, the computer genius had a good ending, when he found his purpose in life by helping people who needed to find justice. A character who probably had material for a spin-off.

7 Deserved Better: Aiden Mathis

None of Emily’s lovers got the ending they deserved. Aiden was the protagonist’s loyal protector, a friend who knew her true identity, a fighting partner, and one of Emily’s best lovers.

Aiden was killed by Victoria and his death was one of the most painful for Emily. The event revived the desire for revenge because she would never be at peace until she punished Victoria for the death of her friend.

6 Fitting Ending: David Clarke

It was confusing for the viewers when David came back from the dead; especially when the whole premise was based on the revenge of his daughter for his death. So, his real death seemed right.

The character was not interested in looking for his daughter, making her believe that he was dead. Emily tried to clear her father’s name, so, for her, it was a hard blow that he abandoned her when she needed him the most. His redemption came at the end when he saved her from Victoria.

5 Deserved Better: Jack Porter

Jack was Emily/Amanda’s childhood love, but when she returned to begin her revenge, he did not recognize her. From that point on, it began a web of lies that made the characters move away and closer; so, the relationship never quite worked out.

In spite of everything he lived during the four seasons, Jack married Emily in the last episode, closing their story with a happy ending. A conclusion not very suitable for her or for him, because revenge kept her from happiness and he, meanwhile, did not react according to what he supposedly felt, for one reason he married Emily’s best friend (who pretended to be Amanda).

4 Fitting Ending: Margaux LeMarchal

After all the crimes committed by this character, prison is an excellent ending, although some fans of the series expected Margaux to die because she earned the hatred of many people.

She changed sides many times and generated a lot of chaos in senseless revenge. Although death is the best ending for some characters, in other cases, like hers, it is preferable that they pay for their sins in life.

3 Deserved Better: Daniel Grayson

One of the relationships that the viewers liked the most was that of Emily and Daniel. The two characters had a lot of charisma and chemistry that made them the favorites of the audience. But Emily’s revenge caused the relationship had no future.

Daniel’s character also changed a lot because of his parents’ and Emily’s manipulations. He didn’t handle very well all the lies and tried to get revenge, but, as he really wasn’t a bad person, he died trying to protect Emily. This ending could have been different, because, in spite of everything, many viewers still believed in that relationship, even if it was a bit (quite) toxic.

2 Fitting Ending: Conrad Grayson

Conrad was one of the bad guys on the TV show, and he revealed himself from the beginning. He always had murky intentions and didn’t care about dragging people down. Power and money were the main reasons that moved his life, not even his children generated such strong feelings in him.

He was one of David Clarke’s main enemies and therefore of Emily/Amanda, so his death comforted the protagonist. Although it was expected that Emily would do something, in fact, it was David who came back from the dead after 20 years to take vengeance.

1 Deserved Better: Charlotte Grayson

Charlotte Grayson was a very unstable young woman in the TV series; her mother’s treatment, Emily’s actions, and finding out that her real father was David Clarke didn’t help the girl either.

She also initiated several vendettas, but the character was not developed and quickly abandoned her objectives. She disappeared for a long time, ending her life in The Hamptons suddenly, and then showed up to donate her mother’s heart to Emily. So, it feels like the character had no continuity and deserved more strength in the scripts.
