The open beta for Resident Evil RE:Verse has temporarily ended, as Capcom has had to take it offline within the space of a few hours of its launch. Resident Evil Re:Verse is an upcoming deathmatch shooter featuring characters from the entire Resident Evil franchise.

Resident Evil Re:Verse is the latest multiplayer component to release alongside a mainstream entry, as Resident Evil 3 owners also received the multiplayer-only Resident Evil Resistance for free. Similarly, those who purchase Resident Evil Village can play Resident Evil Re:Verse for free when it launches in 2021. While Resident Evil Resistance pitted a group of survivors against a villainous Mastermind that laid traps and summoned monsters, Re:Verse is a more traditional shooter. Six characters have been revealed so far (Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and HUNK), all with their own unique abilities and weapons. It’s possible for defeated characters to transform into monsters from the series, such as Resident Evil3‘s Nemesis, allowing them to wreak havoc for the surviving players.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Resident Evil Re:Verse is currently in development, but Capcom announced an open beta that was due to run from April 8 – 11 (for EDT time zone players). However, t seems that the open beta was too much of a strain for Capcom’s networks. According to the official Capcom Twitter page, the open beta for Resident Evil Re:Verse has been shut down until further notice.

It seems that there are significant issues with Resident Evil Re:Verse‘s matchmaking services, enough to the point that the entire event has been suspended indefinitely. It’s currently unknown if the beta will be extended to make up for time lost on repairs or if Capcom will resume the test at all. This shutdown is frustrating, but the ultimate purpose of betas like this one is to identify issues before launch, so it’s better that it’s happened now rather than during the game’s actual release.

It’s unfortunate that the Resident Evil Re:Verse beta’s pause has coincided with a new Resident Evil Village showcase announcement, as Capcom is hyping it up as a significant pre-launch event. New information about Resident Evil Village is due to be announced next week, along with some special surprises that will likely be announcements for new games. The trailer for the event even refers to Resident Evil Re:Verse, so the developer is no doubt rushing to resolve the beta’s fatal errors in time to promote the franchise in time for Resident Evil Village‘s May release.

Resident Evil Re:Verse will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2021.
