RHOBH: Dorit Kemsley Doesn’t Think Hilaria Baldwin Deserves Backlash for Scandal

Dorit Kemsley from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills decided to defend Hilaria Balwin over the weekend. Baldwin is being targeted by fans and the media alike for impersonating a Spanish-born speaker. Kemsley has often been called out for putting on a British voice (amongst other foreign accents) that many believe is fake.

Dorit Kemsley has starred on the reality show since RHOBH season seven in 2016. This was only a year after she moved to Los Angeles with her British-born husband, Paul “PK” Kemsley, whom she claims is the reason for her own foreign accent. That being said, the 44-year-old star was born and raised in Woodbridge, Connecticut. Kemsley has claimed that her accent is the result of spending time in England, as well as her own husband’s strong London accent rubbing off on her.

According to Page Six, Dorit Kemsley decided to take a stand against Hilaria Baldwin’s critics by posting on her Instagram story, “I feel bad for what she’s going through in the press at the moment. I don’t think she deserves it.” Hilaria, 36, is the wife of actor Alec Baldwin and recently become a media target after rumors swirled on Twitter that she was not born in Spain. She was also accused of using a fake accent and changing her name. Kemsley went on to post, “I’ve had so much scrutiny over the way I speak, I’ve learned to ignore all the noise but at first it was really hurtful.” Kemsley explained that she hoped Internet trolls would take a step back in 2021.

Hilaria took to Instagram to address the swirling rumors. She admitted that she was born in Boston, rather than Mallorca, Spain, and that her real name is Hillary. Similarly, Kemsley had to explain to Bravo’s The Daily Dish that she was actually American-born too. In a 2017 interview, she expressed how her foreign-born parents and frequent trips to Europe shaped the way that she speaks today. See Hilaria’s video below:

Many fans have been critical of celebrities putting on fake accents. There’s no doubt that impersonating a foreign culture or language is treading on dangerous ground. Only time will tell what kind of damage this may have on Hilaria’s career. Despite similar blunders, Kemsley continues to play a major role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
