Former The Real Housewives of Orange County star Braunwyn Widham-Burke announced she is celebrating her two years of sobriety, claiming she is grateful for those who supported her. Braunwyn was on the show for two seasons, and while fans enjoyed watching her during her first season, they found her increasingly problematic in her second season. One of the factors which led to her downfall was the way she treated her husband Sean Burke while in quarantine from COVID-19. Fans felt her treatment of him was abusive, suggesting if she were a man, the entire Bravo fandom would be up in arms. Braunwyn claimed her reactions towards Sean were what led her to realize she had a drinking problem. Bravo executives decided not to invite Braunwyn back for a third season.

While her second season was still airing, Braunwyn came out as a lesbian and introduced her girlfriend to the world. While many accepted Braunwyn, they were confused with her marital status and treatment of Sean. The two decided to remain married and had no plans on getting a divorce despite Braunwyn’s sexual orientation. What was even more confusing to fans was Braunwyn’s statement that although she has a girlfriend, she is not comfortable with Sean moving on and finding another love. In the summer of 2021, the couple had a trial separation in which Braunwyn moved to Hawaii with the kids while Sean stayed in the OC, but as of 2022 they’re still married.

Braunwyn celebrated reaching her two-year anniversary of sobriety on Sunday, looking back at that time with gratitude. As reported by Page Six, Sunday marked two years since Braunwyn decided to get sober. In a celebratory Instagram post, Braunwyn recalls the rough moments occurring the days before she got sober, with Sean adding they were very hard. The video’s caption stressed that while she remembers what it was like to drink, she also knows what sobriety has brought her. Looking back at her first year of sobriety, she claims it was all about learning how to cope with her stressors without alcohol, finding people who supported her, and settling into her new life. She claims to have found an amazing support system, and she is extremely thankful for that. Looking ahead, she acknowledges her accomplishment, but admits two years isn’t that long and that she still has a lot of room for improvement.

Sunday not only marks Braunwyn’s sobriety anniversary, but also her wedding anniversary to Sean. She and Sean have now been married for 22 years, although the inner workings of their marriage are a mystery to many. Braunwyn looks at the date as a sign, and hold that day very close to her heart. In her eyes, January 30 symbolizes the two times a new chapter of her life began. The first chapter being married life with Sean, and the second being a sober life. She admits their relationship doesn’t look like they imagined, but she wouldn’t have wanted anyone else by her side through it all. She claimed she would never want to change their relationship, calling Sean her best friend and the one person she can always count on in her life.

It will be interesting to see how long Braunwyn and Sean are able to keep their relationship the way it is. What happens when The Real Housewives of Orange County star’s husband meets another woman he wants to marry? It will be interesting to see how Braunwyn reacts to Sean moving on, since she has said in the past it would hurt her feelings.
