RHOC: Why Fans Are Confused About Jen & Ryne’s Relationship

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 16 introduced newcomer Dr. Jen Armstrong, and fans don’t know what to make of her relationship with her husband Ryne Holliday. Jen, who is an MD, owns her own cosmetic dermatology practice where she performs various treatments such as Botox, fillers, and lasers. Jen has shared that her family dynamic is a bit unconventional, with her working long hours to provide for the family while Ryne takes care of their children and household. Ryne owns his own luxury travel company called Hawaii Hideaways and he used to be a professional poker player prior to having kids.

RHOC viewers quickly saw that Jen and Ryan’s relationship was strained. Jen felt like Ryne was emotionally unavailable while Ryne seemed frustrated and unappreciated at home. In a recent episode, Jen attempted to talk to Ryne about their issues but he just shut her down and walked away. The next day, Jen confided to fellow RHOC castmate Heather Dubrow that Ryne had left the house that night. Although he came back, Jen confessed that he had yelled at her all morning. In an attempt to help her friend’s marriage, Heather threw a dinner party for Jen and Ryne and invited a few of her happily married friends. Alas, Jen got a little too tipsy and Ryne looked like he wanted to be anywhere else.

Fans took to Reddit to share how cringeworthy Heather’s dinner was. Jen kept bossing Ryne around and not letting him speak. Meanwhile, Ryne kept telling Jen to stop drinking. One fan wrote, “I feel like this dinner is revealing a lot about their relationship, and it differs from Jen’s sob story the last couple of episodes.” A commenter said, “This was so hard to watch. I think they are both volatile together. Like oil and vinegar. Just creepy, okay?”RHOC fans thought Heather was pushing their marriage for her storyline. Many felt bad for Ryne’s situation. Another fan wrote, “Does Ryne know this is like an intervention? It’s a little insulting to him, no matter how odd he is. Like, ‘here, look at these people, you should be more like them.’”

At one point during the dinner party, Ryne left the room. The cameras showed him sitting in an empty room, looking at his phone. It was apparent that Jen had way too much to drink. Thus, she and Ryne left early. Fans who had previously thought that Ryne wasn’t emotionally supportive towards Jen now think that Jen needs to take accountability for her toxic behavior. Many thought that the dinner scene was the most awkward interaction in RHOC history. Some predicted that Jen and Ryne would divorce by the end of the year.

Ryne got a lot of heat from fans when Jen was away in Mexico and was struggling with her chronic pain and he seemed very aloof. She cried on the phone that she wanted some emotional support but he gave her a lackluster, “You got this.” Before they hung up, Jen said, “I love you,” but he didn’t say it back. RHOC fans thought that was very telling about their relationship.
