While some housewives within The Real Housewives of New York cast might feel bitter about their exes moving on, Luann de Lesseps is not one of them amid the announcement of ex Tom D’Agostino’s new engagement. Luann de Lesseps, while partially famous for her former marriage to Count Alexandre de Lesseps when the Bravo series premiered, married D’Agostino in 2016 after dating for a year. The marriage and subsequent turmoil were well-documented during the ninth and tenth seasons of Real Housewives of New York

Luann was introduced as a prominent personality within the RHONY cast as the Countess who values class, a value she refuses to renounce since abandoning her countess title. Despite Luann and Count Alexandre divorcing in 2009, she was able to keep the Countess title as long as she stayed unmarried. Luann and D’Agostino went public with their relationship in season eight of RHONY, receiving widespread criticism from her fellow cast members. The core of the conflict stemmed from D’Agostino’s reputation as a bachelor; he previously romanced co-stars Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan. Despite the former flames and a shocking confession from co-star Bethenny Frenkel that D’Agostino had been seen cheating on Luann, the couple proceeded with their engagement. After seven months together and a tireless effort to defend her husband, Luann announced their divorce in 2017. D’Agostino proposed to his current partner Danielle Rollins on Friday.

The “F-Bombs on the G” singer and RHONY star explained that she doesn’t enjoy dwelling in the past. “I’m not a big reminiscer and sometimes I would like to be, but I’m just not that person. That whole story’s behind me,” she explained. “I’ve moved on and I only wish Tom the best.” All well wishes aside, Luann shares that she still contemplates what her life would be like had the marriage to D’Agostino worked out. “I’d still have my penthouse, I’d have a place in Palm Beach. And maybe I could have avoided a lot of problems. But things happen in life and I look at them as learning experiences.”

Luann continued and explained that her divorce from D’Agostino has led to numerous positive opportunities, most notably Luann’s cabaret career. “I don’t know if my cabaret would have been such a big success if I didn’t go through all that drama in my life,” she noted. “People are so supportive of me that they wanted to come and see me rise like a phoenix.RHONY fans know that the former Countess has numerous catchy tunes within her arsenal, and she has only continued to expand her performing horizons. “What I did was I took lemons and I made lemonade… You just have to pick yourself up by your bootstraps and keep it moving. That’s what I try to do with my life.”

The drama surrounding Luann and D’Agostino’s relationship took up a fair share of screen time throughout multiple seasons of Real Housewives of New York. Naturally, all eyes are on Luann in response to D’Agostino’s new engagement. Luann has dealt with many consequences of the tumultuous marriage, from her Floridian arrest to her battle with substance abuse. Luckily, Luann has always taken pride in her ability to face adversity and has moved on in both her career and love life. Luann seems to be focused on matters closer to her heart than her ex’s new engagement, with many RHONY fans excited to see and hear what comes next from their favorite classy cabaret singer.
