The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Jen Shah is getting help from her cousin, who set up a GoFundMe page in order to help with her legal fees. Some fans of the franchise find this ridiculous since she is accused of scamming money from the poor, to begin with.

News broke back on March 30 that the reality star had been arrested after telling Bravo production she had a family emergency while filming. Kiersten Ann Fletcher, who is the federal prosecutor on the case, revealed that there had been an ongoing investigation into Shah since 2017. According to federal prosecutors, the premise of the scam was to build shell companies, and the government revealed that one of the companies was called Master Pro Group, which was co-owned by Shah. The prosecutor stated that the Shah made $5 million in crime processed. Shah pled not guilty to two counts against her after hiring a D.C. lawyer to represent her.

Since her arrest, Shah has thanked her supporters, appeared on Cameo, and now even has a GoFundMe campaign started in her name. Social media account @realhousewivesfranchise shared the profile on its page. Shah’s cousin, Danny Filipe, started the campaign but it has garnered immense backlash and looks like it has been taken off the site. Filipe wrote in the profile that he created the fundraiser to help out his cousin, saying,“Each year in the United States, more than 10,000 people are falsely accused and wrongfully convicted of crimes they did not commit. This statistic demonstrates the government makes painful mistakes.”

Shah’s relative went on to say that they are only asking for 10,000 people to contribute $250 each as Shah is looking at a sentence that could have her spending decades behind bars. Shah is said to need $2.5 million due to the vast amount of documents that need to be looked at and because the “Southern District of New York is the most expensive jurisdiction in the country.” Before the profile was taken down, the “Justice for Jen” campaign had only received two donations, one for $250 and one for $5.

Fans found the fundraiser hard to swallow as she is accused of receiving $5 million in criminal proceeds. She has also started to charge $99 on Cameo for a personalized video. Fans were left disgusted, with some even reporting the campaign to the website. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake Citystar is set to start her trial in October.
