After all the drama it’s caused on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season 2, has Mary Cosby’s controversial church closed for good? Mary was introduced to viewers as someone who inherited a church from her grandmother, and had to marry her step grandfather in return. In September 2021, former church members accused Mary of being a cult leader. The Bravo star has denied the accusations.

Mary’s church, and her behavior in response to the allegations, has been talked about nonstop this season. It’s even overshadowed fellow RHOSLC housewife Jen Shah’s highly publicized legal battle. And the church leader’s erratic behavior has not helped to make the rumors go away. The allegations against Mary were brought to her co-stars’ attention by former member Cameron Williams, who has since passed away. The friend of Lisa Barlow’s tried to warn Meredith Marks to keep her distance from Mary, to no avail. Making matters even stranger, rumors recently came out that Mary and Cameron allegedly had an affair. Now, fans of the show are starting to wonder if all the controversy has led to church to be shut down.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fan account Bravo_Obsessed posted a screenshot on Twitter that fueled the speculation. The screenshot was of a dm sent to another fan account, therealitybitch2.0 on Instagram. The tweet read, “According to this account, this is a current picture of the front of Mary’s church.” The current picture of Faith Temple Church showed that all the windows had been boarded up. Notably, the church’s sign had also been removed. The anonymous sender thanked therealitybitch2.0 for keeping their identity hidden, writing “I don’t need Mary to send Jesus after me,” a reference to the reality star’s season 2 tagline. While the sign could’ve been removed to be replaced by another one, the combination of that and the windows being boarded up certainly raised eyebrows. Adding to the speculation, Google Maps listed Faith Temple Church as “temporarily closed.” Some Twitter users speculated that the church was just temporarily closed due to the pandemic. However, that still wouldn’t explain a sign being removed.

The rumor-launching photo came out amid a lot of controversy and questions about Mary. Once the allegations about her church were brought up on screen, Mary’s behavior further alienated her from viewers. The 49-year-old responded to being compared to Jen Shah by making a racist comment about Mexicans. After being called out for it, Mary released an odd apology on social media. Fans weren’t buying it. Especially as she soon made another racially insensitive comment in a later episode, this time geared towards new cast member Jennie Nguyen.

Amid the controversy, news came out that Mary didn’t show up for the season 2 reunion taping. Soon after, she posted some odd Instagram content that slammed reality tv in general. These actions seem to indicate that she would not be returning for a third season. If that is the case, she won’t exactly be missed. The only cast member who has stood by her is Meredith Marks, though that alliance hasn’t worked in her favor. Likewise, fans have been tired of Mary and her problematic antics for some time. While her exit seems certain, the future of her church is still up in the air.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Sunday nights at 9 pm on Bravo.
