There are many reasons as to why Bravo was right to fire Jennie Nguyen from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City following her slew of racist Facebook posts. Last week, Jennie was under fire after racist Facebooks posts resurfaced that appear to promote “White Lives Matter” from 2020. During this time, George Flloyd, a Black man, was murdered by cops, causing an uproar in the Black Lives Matter movement. For many months, people who supported the movement would peacefully protest through the streets of many cities throughout the country.

Throughout this time, Jennie seemingly supported the police and not the people who were being killed for no good reason. When people throughout the country wanted the police to have further training, Jennie shared a post saying it wasn’t the police who needed the training but the people who were being targeted by police (via Page Six). In the post, she implied that parents should be teaching their children not to “loot” and “destroy buildings.” Jennie, who was an RHOSLC fan-favorite, seemingly believed if someone was doing something wrong, the police had the right to bear arms.

Earlier this week, Bravo announced via their Instagram page that they have fired Jennie from RHOSLC. In their post, Bravo said they have “ceased” filming with Jennie and that she will no longer be a cast member on the show. They also realized that the network needs to do some serious vetting before making any officially casting decisions in the future. Jennie needed to be let go following the Facebook posts as fans wouldn’t stand for it. Viewers watch the Real Housewives as a way to escape from real life and watch other people engage in petty drama. If Jennie, who offered an apology, were to return, she would only receive an immense amount of hate, and some viewers might even stop watching altogether.

Bravo has fired many of its former reality stars in the past year due to racist and sexist allegations, and they cannot let it slide with Jennie. The subject matter of Jennie’s post does not match the values that Bravo represents throughout their network. They have done a better job of including BIPOC castmates in their shows, which has brought more eyes to the network. If they continued filming with Jennie, it is likely they would have lost a lot of viewers, especially fans of RHOSLC. Bravo has done a lot better in keeping their cast members accountable for their actions and had to make the difficult decision to let Jennie, the newest housewife, go.

Even though Jennie was doing well with the RHOSLC audience, her racist post brought down her popularity. Bravo knew they couldn’t keep Jennie around as her values went against everything the network believes in. From this moment on, hopefully, Bravo will put in a better vetting process, so nothing like this happens again.
