New Eternals fan art gives Richard Madden’s Ikaris a much more comic-accurate hairstyle. Based on the lesser-known Marvel Comics team of the same name, the film from Chloé Zhao granted them their live-action debut in MCU Phase 4, receiving overall mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. The film was released exclusively in theatres on November 5, 2021, and is now available to stream on Disney+.

Eternals follows the titular heroes after they had gone their separate ways, with the sudden return of their arch-enemies, the Deviants, threatening the global population and forcing them to reunite. Joining Madden in the star-studded Eternals cast were the likes of Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, and Angelina Jolie. Whilst many of the characters took on a comic-accurate appearance, some looked more different than others, prompting some efforts from fans to tweak their MCU movie looks.

In a since-deleted Reddit post, one fan attempted to give Madden’s Ikaris his long, blond hair ripped straight from the Eternals comics. This coveted longer hair is showcased in the character’s blue suit, which remains slightly different from his comic book counterpart’s. The poster also wonders why the filmmakers didn’t pursue the look in the actual movie. Check out a screenshot of the post below:

While comic accuracy has not historically been the most pressing concern film adaptations, this aspect has had a sudden resurgence in recent years with many of today’s projects. In particular, successful films and TV shows like The Suicide SquadWandaVision, and Hawkeye have begun prioritizing comic accuracy in characters’ appearances. Likewise, many fans have also made their opinion on this matter vocal, encouraging directors to keep this trend up in the years to come.

Not only does this piece of fan art completely prove that a comic-accurate Madden Ikaris would have looked just as good, but it also continues the trend of audiences wanting to see these characters ripped directly off of the page. Seeing how successful many of these projects have been with fans, this trend looks likely to continue to impact comic book movies in the future. If an Eternals sequel ever gets made, it will be interesting to see if Marvel Studios prioritizes more comic-accurate costumes for the superhero team.
