The fan base of Adult Swim’s hit animated sci-fi show Rick and Morty can be a voracious bunch. With multiple years going by between some seasons, it’s no surprise that they hunt down any little morsel of information they can find about new seasons and cook up fan theories in the show’s off time.

Season 5’s finale broke down some of the show’s greatest lore, from the Central Finite Curve to Evil Morty’s motivation. In the wake of such an action-packed final episode, fans are wondering what’s in store for season 6, and they’re going to Reddit to voice their favorite theories.

The Season 6 Return Will Be Sooner Than Normal

Rick And Morty fans are no strangers to patience. The show has famously taken long stretches between seasons and fans have been left high and dry for years at a time before being gifted with new episodes. But fans may be in for some good news if one Redditor’s theory about season 6 is correct.

According to thebeardedgreek on Reddit, interviews that Dan Harmon and other writers have given allude to fans’ wait time being much shorter. He writes, “Harmon revealed to Decider that the team has been working on three seasons at once. It’s more likely we’ll get a less long break between seasons.”

A Larger, Smarter Villain Was Kept Out Of The Central Finite Curve

One thing in the season 5 finale that was foreshadowed in previous seasons, was that Ricks created infinite universes under one umbrella with a single stipulation: Rick is the smartest living being. Outside of the Central Finite Curve, that stipulation doesn’t exist, and Redditors think there may be some beings Ricks were trying to keep out.

Thebeardedgreek chimes in again on this fan theory, saying, “He might have experienced something incredibly dangerous already and the Central Finite Curve was born out of his necessity for survival as much as it was for his ego.” User Anubismaster adds, “That may finally show us the Chthulu episode from the intro” proposing that the infamous Lovecraftian monster lives outside the curve.

A Council Of Jerrys Will Be Featured

A pretty popular fan theory is that there is a Council of Jerrys similar in function to the Council Of Ricks, except they are in a universe where Jerry, who is better than Rick in many ways, is the smartest person. With the breaking of the Central Finite Curve, fans think the Jerry Council will make an appearance in season 6.

Bootlegman213 on Reddit thinks that the season 6 opener is when fans can expect to see the Council of Jerrys. They say, “The season will either start or end with an episode that introduces the Council Of Jerrys, which will end in a fight between Jerry and Rick.” It’s an interesting theory, and an evenly matched fight between Rick and Jerry would be very entertaining.

There Will Be A Gravity Falls Crossover

Hardcore fans of both shows may have noticed the many Gravity Falls Easter eggs present in Rick And Morty that allude to them existing in the same universe. Although writers have not mentioned any plans to do a crossover, fans theorize that the season 5 finale opened up the possibility.

On a Reddit post, user Rit2Strong wrote, “Considering that Ford was smart enough to develop interdimensional travel, there’s a possibility that Ford is one of the beings that is smarter than Rick in the other universes.” With all of the intertwined references between shows, it wouldn’t be surprising if the broken Curve led to some new (or not-so-new) characters being introduced.

The Show Will Return To Episodic Adventures

With the highly canon nature of the last few season 5 episodes, fans are unsure about the content for season 6. Sometimes the writers carry on with the overarching plotlines, but other times they return to the free-form adventure format.

Even though many things have changed in the Rick And Morty universe, some Redditors think that things will go back to normal. Wise_Bass predicted, “I think we’re back to episodic adventures next season. They basically just cleared house on a bunch of the canon-y stuff, and it’s effectively a reset.”

Evil Morty Will Team Up With A Stronger Being To Take Down Rick

Evil Morty hates Rick Sanchez the most out of any of Rick’s enemies, and he’s the Rick And Morty villain that poses the greatest threat to Rick. Now that he’s outside of the Central Finite Curve, just distancing himself may not be enough, and user shoeless_powerlin3 made an entire video detailing their opinion.

The Redditor summed up the events of season 5 and then theorized that “there could be another being waiting on the other side of the portal that’s smarter than Rick that says, ‘Oh, wow. He sounds like s—. Let’s go kill him.'” Evil Morty doesn’t seem like the type to go back to being a sidekick, but his hatred of Rick could fuel a more complex revenge plot.

Ricks Who Chose Beth And Diane Are Now Vulnerable To Other Ricks

Another interesting theory about the way the multiverse and Central Finite Curve work has been making its way around the fan base. Some fans, like Redditor Mrfish31, don’t think the Curve just separated Ricks from everyone, but, more specifically, they separated “all the realities where Rick is the smartest Narcissist in the universe from all the ones where he isn’t.”

The user goes on to theorize that the Ricks like C-137, who wanted to stay with their families and didn’t choose science, have been quarantined away from the more destructive super genius Ricks like the one that killed his family. Now that the prison walls are open, Mrfish31 posits that those families are at risk.

Rick Will Discover He’s The One Who Dropped The Bomb

In the season 5 finale, which is the best one yet, it’s revealed that Rick C-137’s entire storyline centers around his search for the Rick that killed his Diane and Beth. Or, more accurately, the Rick that he assumed killed his Diane and Beth. One Redditor theorizes that the reality of their deaths is a lot more tragic and that Rick will discover that soon.

Trishlovesdolphins writes, “We don’t see who drops the bomb. We assume it was Rick based on him showing up before.” They go on to offer that either Evil Morty may have dropped it, or Rick C-137 himself did. “Either by accident or because he needs to save Morty. End game, our Rick will have to choose to let Morty go and keep Diane/Beth or let them go to keep Morty.”

Rick Will Rely More On Morty

As other fans have theorized, the ensuing episodes of Rick And Morty might take place outside of the Central Finite Curve, with Rick and Morty finally exploring universes where Rick is not necessarily the smartest being, building a great and meaningful character for Rick.

User tj5jr states that “he trapped himself in universes where he was in control, but now there are universes where he’s not in control.” Another Redditor, OCDexter23 added that this is “setting up for episodes where he needs Morty.” The penultimate episode had Rick and Morty addressing the toxicity in their relationship, and many fans think Morty will become more of an equal to Rick.

There Won’t Be Any Interdimensional Travel

Rick’s portal gun was empty at the end of season 5, and Rick and Morty were stranded in the Mortyburg ship with all of the rescued Mortys. With Evil Morty highjacking all of the portal fluid available on the Citadel, and other episodes implying it’s hard to come by, requiring “bootleg” fluid that was mentioned in “The Ricklantis Mixup,” fans are thinking Rick and Morty may not be portaling anywhere for awhile.

PinguinoDelRio says that “I’m not expecting to see much interdimensional travel for a while. I’m assuming we’ll get more standalone episodes.” Not only could supplies be scarce, Rick could also be hesitant to portal anywhere because of the Central Finite Curve breaking.
