The sudden appearance of the Smith family’s little friend, Mr. Poopybutthole, was unexpected by fans, and so was the fondness that they felt for the secondary character. The mysterious being is an oblong yellow creature who wears pants and a top hat, and has a catchphrase — “Ooowee!” The origins of Mr. Poopybutthole on Rick & Morty aren’t known, and his limited screentime doesn’t provide answers either.

Regardless, fans get to experience the friendly alien’s personality in a short time, and he seems to be a genuine, kind-hearted friend of the family, albeit prone to hysterics and some laugh-out-loud dialogue. Mr. Poopybutthole often breaks the fourth wall and interacts with the audience, which makes him even more memorable.

8 When He Proposes To Morty In “Morty’s Mind Blowers”

Mr. Poopybutthole made a fleeting appearance in “Morty’s Mind Blowers” when Morty was plugging in all the memories that Rick had made him forget so he could know his lives. After a plethora of implausible flashbacks, there is a brief one where Mr. Poopybutthole is seen proposing to Morty, which is mind-boggling, to say the least.

The scene wasn’t much, so it doesn’t rank high, but the content of it was intriguing enough to catch the eye. Audiences have been puzzling over who the strange creature actually is, with some theorizing that he is Morty himself, or an interdimensional superbeing. Either way, the moment is tender and adds to the mystery of Mr. Poopybutthole.

7 When He Talks To The Audience About The Finale In “The Wedding Squanchers”

After the fateful shooting in season 2, viewers got to see how Mr. Poopybutthole was doing in “The Wedding Squanchers.” He now had a cane from the bullet wound, and had a “Guns Aren’t Fun” poster framed in his home. The yellow being broke the fourth wall and spoke to viewers about the shocking cliffhanger in the episode while feeding his cat and taking a bunch of painkillers.

He seemed a bit delirious, so when his pizza order came, he ended up chucking the pie and pouncing on the delivery man, asking him if the Smith’s would be fine, and then rolling around on the floor because the wait for the next season was about two years away. The moment was a bit shocking and while it was nice to see Poopybutthole, his sad state of living was pitiable.

6 When He Introduces His Family In “The Rickchurian Mortydate”

The season 3 finale of Rick & Morty featured the beloved character again, but this time there were more Poopybuttholes than before. After all the time that had passed, Mr. Poopybutthole had moved on in life, and he had a wife and a baby to prove it.

Apart from getting married, he had also gone to school and got his GED, and now lived a respectable family life in a home strewn lovingly with their photos and baby’s toys. This was a big change from his sad bachelor life shown in “The Wedding Squanchers,” and Baby Poopybutthole was just adorable.

5 When Beth Shoots Him In “Total Rickall”

This moment in “Total Rickall” was absolute bananas, but the drama of it makes it a good one. The Rick & Morty episode was weirder than usual: Beth was already suspicious of Mr. Poopybutthole when they were being attacked by parasites who were implanting fake memories in their heads and appearing suddenly as longtime companions.

After Rick and the family had wiped out the parasites, only Mr. Poopybutthole remained. As they sat to eat, Beth suddenly shot him, as he seemed like an obvious parasite, but he actually started to bleed and die, which was a big plot twist. For the drama and Beth’s wine-soaked tears, this moment was a good one, although not for Mr. Poopybutthole himself.

4 The Karate Professor In “One Crew Over the Crewcoo’s Morty”

In this episode of Rick & Morty season 4, Mr. Poopybutthole was seen with a respectable teaching job as an African-American Women’s Studies Professor in college. As he introduced himself to his motley class and spoke about Maya Angelou, the entire class proceeded to attack him, but the tiny teacher took all of them single-handedly, cane and all.

Rick had made this attack happen, but the scene showed the bad-ass side of Mr. Poopybutthole, which had been absent for a while. Viewers learnt that he was quite a fighter, and they were excited to see him team up with Rick and Morty again.

3 When He Says The First “Oh Wee” In “Total Rickall”

The beginning of “Total Rickall” introduced the legendary Mr. Poopybutthole to Rick & Morty fans for the first time ever. Rick & Morty had several aliens, some inspired by pop culture, but none as iconic as Poopybutthole. As Rick explained to Beth, Summer, Morty, and Jerry how the parasites would appear as never-seen-before friends who were extremely familiar because they had embedded fake memories in their heads, the character made his first appearance.

He exclaimed “Ooowee!” and assured Rick he would help him vanquish the aliens, and audiences were convinced he was one of them, until the creators made it clear that he was, in fact, a real person.

2 The Scrapbook In “The Poop In My Pants Webisode”

A highly emotional, two-minute-long webisode about Mr. Poopybutthole was one of his best moments. The video showed him remove a scrapbook titled, “The Poop In My Pants,” which was full of photos of his whole life, from his childhood in school (which looked a lot like Morty’s school), to him meeting his future wife, graduating together, and having their baby.

The memories which showed the adoption of his cat and dog and the death of the feline were especially heartbreaking. Audiences came to care even more about Mr. Poopybutthole as they got to see some of the weird character’s backstory in Rick & Morty.

1 When He’s Sorry For The Lack Of Bad Memories In “Total Rickall”

This moment on the series was perhaps the saddest one surrounding the character, but the poignant dialogue was so characteristic of Mr. Poopybutthole that it has to be the best. As he was recovering from Beth’s gunshot in hospital, the Smiths visit their dear friend to check on him.

As he does physiotherapy, Mr. Poopybutthole spots Beth and the others, and asks the nurse to deliver a message to them. She then comes out and tells them that he was sorry that they had no bad memories of him, which made them believe he was an intruder. He asked them to leave, if they loved him, which was sad but also sweet.
