Rick And Morty’s “M. Night Shaym-Aliens” sees Jerry have the best day of his life – which naturally turns out to be a cruel lie. Rick And Morty is the co-creation of Dan Harmon (Community) and Justin Roiland, who voices the title characters. The series charts the adventures of scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty, with the latter’s parents Jerry and Beth or his sister Summer occasionally joining in. The show is a mix of genres, from family sitcom to sci-fi adventure and everything inbetween.

Rick And Morty has become famous for its fantastic writing and performances and in addition to being hilarious, it also has plenty of touching moments too, especially when Rick has little flashes of humanity. Rick And Morty has run for four seasons thus far, and Adult Swim’s 2018 order of at least 70 more episodes should make sure it lasts for at least a few more.

While Rick And Morty was still finding its feet during the first season the show still came out with some great episodes. An especially fun one is episode 4 “M. Night Shaym-Aliens,” where Rick realizes he’s trapped within an alien simulation with Morty and must find a way to escape. The alien Zigerion race wants to trick him into teaching them the ingredients for concentrated dark matter, and have constructed an elaborate computer program in an effort to coax it out of him. What’s worse is that every time Rick thinks he’s escaped, an M. Night Shyamalan-style (Glass) twist reveals it was just another simulation.

While Rick is having a bad day, Jerry is having his best ever. Rick And Morty’s “M. Night Shaym-Aliens” reveals Jerry was accidentally kidnapped and placed in the simulation too and once this is discovered, the program is placed on its lowest setting by the aliens just to keep him distracted. Jerry doesn’t notice the many bugs and glitches this results in as he successfully pitches a new ad slogan, has great sex with a simulated Beth and even wins an “Appley Award” for his efforts. This is cruelly snatched away, of course, when Rick finds and “rescues” him from his perfect day.

Rick And Morty “M. Night Shay-Aliens” ends with the aliens seemingly tricking Rick into revealing his formula, with even Morty revealed as a simulation. Rick and Jerry escape in a pod but the aliens soon blow it up after mixing Rick’s fake formula, who saw through their silly elaborate con. The episode ends with Jerry pitching his Apple campaign to his real employers and he’s immediately fired.
