Veronica Lodge of Riverdale is a character that makes heads turn. Fans can’t ignore her impeccable dress sense, the ever-present pearls, or the keen sense (or lack thereof) for business that the high school teenager possesses. The Latinx lady (only on the show but not in the comics) juggles schoolwork, prison breaks, and business rivalries with ease, which would be impressive if it weren’t so unreal.

Riverdale is known for its winding narrative, abandoned plot lines, and gaping plot holes, and this confusion extends to the raven-haired daddy’s girl in the town. A lot of things about Veronica Lodge just don’t add up.

10 Mean Girl To Goody Two Shoes

Veronica was a New Yorker before she fled to Riverdale with her mother after Hiram’s arrest in the Big Apple. She alluded to her mean girl past several times before spilling the beans: she and her friend Katy had bullied a girl so much at her previous school that the student had to transfer and start therapy.

She claimed that she was brought back to earth after her father’s public arrest, and vowed to be better in her new school. However, her sudden transition from mean to nice made no sense as people don’t change dramatically overnight.

9 The Speakeasy

Along with Pop’s Chock’Lit Shop, Veronica also ran a secret speakeasy called La Bonne Nuit in its basement. While it was unbelievable enough that a high schooler could run full businesses, it was even more absurd that one of them was a bar and cabaret joint.

What was strange was that Veronica was underage when she inaugurated the establishment, which meant that she was essentially helping other underage students get drunk, and tons of adults and teens came to an almost illegal La Bonne Nuit to spend their time. Weird.

8 Veronica And The Pussycats

Josie and the Pussycats was an iconic band that consisted of Josie, Valerie, and Melody before Veronica came to Riverdale High. She joined the Pussycats soon after she arrived, and sang with the band a few times.

However, in season 2, Melody and Valerie got wind of Josie pursuing a solo career and broke the band up, which Veronica decided to revive… and rename. Though brief, it was petty that she renamed and led a band when the other two had been in it longer and had more experience.

7 Besties With Betty

Many fans can’t understand how Veronica was best friends with Betty. They barely spent any time together on the series, and always brought out the worst in each other. They have both publicly humiliated each other, and Veronica kissed Archie in front of Betty knowing full well of her unrequited crush.

Veronica also supported her father numerous times against the Serpents, even though her best friend’s boyfriend led them. She also shamed Betty for not indulging in Jingle-Jangle and kissed Jughead to spite her and Archie. None of this was friendly behavior, let alone that of a best friend.

6 Cheered For Prisoners

In a bid to encourage Archie’s football game in prison, Veronica involved the River Vixens and took them just outside a prison courtyard to cheer for all the prison inmates. The whole idea by itself was skewed because making teenagers cheerlead in front of prisoners who clamored to the fence and clawed at it while they performed was disturbing.

Not to mention that while Archie was innocent, the rest of the prison inhabitants had been convicted of serious crimes and exposing her schoolmates to them was selfish. It also begged the question: how did Veronica get access into the compound?

5 The Rum Business

In the real world, it would be impossible for teenagers to register and run a rum business, especially as a revenge move on their father. Since Riverdale runs beyond the constraints of logic and laws, Veronica does exactly that.

She opened her own rum business with a super-secret and exclusive rum recipe, which made no sense since making rum is not the same as throwing ingredients into a bowl to make a salad. She also partnered with fellow teenager Cheryl to make maple rum, which the two ran out of Cheryl’s mother’s disused brothel. Go figure.

4 Her Relationship With Reggie

Veronica was always very vocal about how devoted she was to her Archiekins throughout the show, but right after she spoke to him on a payphone when he ran to Canada and claimed that the two of them were endgame, she immediately went and fell into the arms of Reggie Mantle.

It was understandable that she had just been broken up with, but it seemed like her love for Archie was fragile and could be forgotten easily, which didn’t add up especially after her grand declarations of love for the redhead.

3 Shifty Last Name

In “Chapter Sixty: Dog Day Afternoon,” Veronica decided to change her last name from Lodge to Luna to spite her father Hiram. Luna was Hiram’s grandfather’s original surname before Hiram changed it to Lodge. She angered her father and went ahead with the paperwork, and successfully changed her name.

However, ten episodes later, she was back to using Lodge. This wasn’t paid much attention in the series, like many other things, and fans were left confused about everything. Surely it couldn’t be so easy to keep switching out names.

2 Shaky Feminism

The fiery business heiress was a self-proclaimed feminist from the beginning of the show and even stated her views out loud while interacting with the students of Riverdale High and other varied mobsters.

Disappointingly, Veronica’s feminism seemed to be only lip service as she didn’t really respect the choices of her fellow women unless they agreed with hers. When she got into a fight with Betty on the couple’s weekend, she delivered a low blow and spilled the beans on dark Betty in front of others, and shamed her for her kinks and lingerie. She also pressured Betty to indulge in Jingle-Jangle with her and proceeded to call her a wallflower when her friend refused.

1 Kiss And Forget

Ronnie had a penchant for kissing people randomly through the show, which she then promptly forgot about. During her River Vixens audition with Betty, she locked lips with the blonde, which was never spoken about later. Even at her family’s cabin, she proposed to and proceeded to kiss Jughead in a bid to “even things out,” which was also forgotten.

While there existed no limit on how many people one could kiss, it was a bit strange that Ronnie liked kissing people in public just for kicks, and then pretended like it didn’t happen.
