The promo for the newest episode of Riverdale features Archie in grim danger, among many other dramatic turns. Riverdale is a gritty reboot of the classic Archie comics, developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa in 2017. Throughout the course of its five and a half seasons (season 6 is currently airing), the show — which stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, and Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge — Riverdale‘s many outrageous plotlines have included a drug called jingle jangle, a cult, several musical episodes, and a seven-year time jump.

Riverdale season 6 has taken all this one step further, adding in the wrinkle of several characters developing superpowers as well as the return of Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) from Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The most recent episode ended with an explosion destroying Archie’s house, supposedly killing the villainous Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) in the process. The town is also still under attack by TBK, the Trash Bag Killer, who just killed an officer who assaulted Betty and was subsequently fired.

The CW (via TV Promos) has dropped their promo for Riverdale season 6, episode 7, titled “Death at a Funeral.” Although it’s only 20 seconds long, the clip is packed full of typical Riverdale twists and turns. It opens on Veronica speaking at her father’s funeral, then shows quick bursts of Betty in action mode, Cheryl using her newfound superpowers to blow the windows open, Jughead dealing with a world-shattering revelation, and Archie being dragged away, presumably by TBK, who is seen menacing him in the next scene. “Death at a Funeral,” which is the 102nd episode of the series overall, will air on The CW on March 27, 2022. The episode will also feature Veronica being visited by her mother, and Archie attempting to rebuild his home after the explosion. Although the official episode count for the season hasn’t been announced, this is likely only the beginning, because the past two seasons of Riverdale have featured 19 episodes apiece.

Every time it seems like Riverdale has run out of ways to keep the over-the-top story progressing, they reveal they have yet another trick up their sleeve. Presumably, audiences won’t find out the identity of the Trash Bag Killer quite yet. However, Archie is likely to get some valuable insight into how the villain operates given the way they come face to face in this next episode. This will likely begin a hugely important arc that will run over the rest of the season.
