Robbie Amell is returning to The Flash for season 8. Amell played Ronnie Raymond, aka Firestorm, initially in the first season of The Flash. Raymond was involved in a particle accelerator explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs, which merged him with Victor Garber’s Martin Stein, creating the superhero known as Firestorm. The character died in the season finale of season one and appeared once more in The Flash season 3 during the “Into the Speed Force” episode.

The Flash season 8 is currently underway, which began with its new crossover storyline, “Armageddon.” The event will last five episodes before the show goes on hiatus in March. “Armageddon” features several returning guest stars, including Tom Cavanagh, Cress Williams, Katherine McNamara, Osric Chau, Brandon Routh, and Chyler Leigh, to name a few. The “Armageddon” event is the seventh annual Arrowverse crossover, which centers on an alien threat arriving on Earth, rallying Barry Allen and Team Flash to contend with it.

Now, another guest star can be added to the list, although he won’t appear until “Armageddon” has ended.  According to EW, Robbie Amell will again portray Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm in a two-episode arc starting with episode 11. Story details are being kept under wraps regarding how he returns, but it’s been confirmed that he will indeed be back. Amell has stated in the past that he’d be open to returning to The Flash as Firestorm as long as it “made sense” for everybody.

Amell has stayed busy in his post-The Flash days, starring in several T.V. and film projects. The actor starred as Max in Netflix’s The Babysitter and The Babysitter: Killer Queen genre films, as well as guest appearances in A Series of Unfortunate Events and The X-Files. Amell was cast as the lead for Amazon’s Upload, which is expected to drop its second season later this year or in early 2022. The actor can currently be seen as Chris Redfield in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

Since Raymond’s death, Firestorm remerged with Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh) for a time before the other half, Martin Stein, severed their psychic link, essentially ending Firestorm. This leaves the door wide open for Amell’s return, although it will be a complicated fix to bring him back as Firestorm. Still, with so much going on with the multiverse, the possibilities seem endless. Even though Amell is only slated to return for a few episodes, it’s entirely possible that his “reintroduction” could turn into something more significant or longer-lasting. Either way, viewers will have to wait until 2022, when The Flash returns from its hiatus, to see where things will go.
