Warning! Spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El #6 by DC Comics

DC Comics nearly used the wrong Robin during a heartwarming scene in the latest issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El #6. In an image shared with retailers, DC used the wrong hero in the initial art for the series where Damian Wayne meets Jon Kent’s boyfriend. Earlier art revealed Tim Drake was accidentally drawn instead, which was later fixed once the publisher noticed the mistake.

In Superman: Son of Kal-El #6, Jon Kent and his boyfriend Jay Nakamura’s investigation into Henry Bendix takes them to S.T.A.R. Labs. While inside, the pair encounter Damian Wayne and Lois Lane, who are doing their own recon work on Bendix. The unexpected Super-Sons reunion proves to be quite sweet, as Damian tells Jon he’s “really happy” he met Jay, while also being impressed with Nakamura leading The Truth. However, the heartfelt moment initially was drawn quite differently by artist John Timms, as Tim Drake was accidentally drawn into the comic instead of Damian. Thankfully, DC caught the mistake before the comic hit the stands.

Rich Johnston from BleedingCool.com reported the preview of the series sent to retailers before the issue came out featured Tim Drake instead of Damian Wayne in Superman: Son of Kal-El #6. Johnston wrote that including Tim Drake seemed to excite retailers who anticipated added interest to the series as both bisexual heroes were about to interact for the first time since coming out. However, Tim Drake was never supposed to be in the series, as a simple mistake led him to appear in the original preview art.

Writer Tom Taylor revealed that adding Tim Drake and not Damian Wayne in the preview art was an accident and that the writing for the book never changed. He added Timms accidentally went off the wrong model for Robin for the few pages he appeared in, which was fixed before it went to print. Taylor said Timms was able to redraw the pages and is a “champion” for the hard work he’s done on the series. In the comic, Wayne looks a little taller than usual, which is the only indication Timms redrew the hero.

It seems a simple mistake led to DC Comics sending out a preview featuring the wrong Robin to retailers. There is no conspiracy here, as Damian Wayne wasn’t supposed to be Tim Drake. Timms drew the wrong Robin, which DC editors thankfully caught before the issue went to print. Mistakes happen, and in this case, Damian Wayne ultimately ended up in the comic as he was supposed to. Crisis averted.
