Warning! Spoilers for Future State: Robin Eternal #1 below.

Tim Drake is about to get his own superpowers. In Future State: Robin Eternal #1, the longtime Batman sidekick is hot on the heels of the Magistrate when he encounters the organization trying to peddle a new Lazrus Resin for expirimental enhancements – as he tries to stop the shipment before it’s given to their cybernetic army. However, after getting killed fighting one of the Cybers, thanks to the resin, he was reborn as something entirely different.

Future State: Robin Eternal #1 by Megan Fitzmartin, Eddy Barrows, Eber Ferreira, Adriano Lucas, and Pat Brousseau ends with Stephanie Brown and Darcy shocked over the ressurection of Robin after falling into the Cyber’s Lazarus Resin. His rise will come with new abilities, as the Lazarus Resin is not only capable of bringing the dead back to life, but gives the user organic regeneration. Prior to Tim, it hadn’t been known if it even worked on humans.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In previews for Future State: Robin Eternal #2 Robin rises again after dying, covered in Lazarus Resin. He immediately goes after the Cyber that previously killed him, delivering a punch so strong that it knocks the synthezoid’s head off its body. Tim stands over the Cyber’s body while he tries to avoid thinking about the possible side effects of ingesting the resin, especially considering how the Lazarus Pit has impacted some his fellow heroes. Remember, Jason Todd was forever changed by the pit. Tim immediately notes how strong he feels.

Tim Drake has just become a one-man wrecking crew against the Magistrate’s Cybers, who were created to help them enforce their authoritarian rule. While he’s used to using his tactical abilities, detective skills, and advanced tech from Batman to be a hero, with the Lazarus Resin, he’s been gifted not only a second-chance at life, but some serious superpowered abilities. The big question is whether he’ll be able to control them. Lazarus Resin is even more dangerous than the pit, so it’s likely Tim will experience some negative impact of being revived. Hopefully, he doesn’t turn on his teammates.

The third Robin’s future, like his fellow Bat-Family members, is dark as the Magistrate attempts to control all of Gotham City. However, with his new powers, Tim Drake has the chance to make a significant dent against their forces and help take them down before the city is completely overrun by Peacekeepers and Cybers. But, whether Tim can stay in control with the Lazarus Resin flowing through his veins remains to be seen. Future State: Robin Eternal is in comic shops later this week.
