Psyonix, the developer of vehicular soccer game Rocket League, has revealed that a playable Lamborghini Huracán STO will be added to the game tomorrow. Rocket League is similar to soccer, with the twist being that players control a rocket-powered car which they use to ram the ball toward the goal. The title, released in 2015, received critical praise and has become a popular esport in recent years.

Rocket League Season 3, which began on April 7, brought many changes and additions to the nearly six year old title. A new car, the fiery Tyranno, was added to the game’s already large roster of vehicles. Changes were made to the game’s Pro Tier Rewards system, in an effort to make it easier to view specific unlockables and pursue them. A new stadium, DFH Stadium (Circuit), was also added to give players a fresh view while they compete. The launch of Rocket League Season 3 strained the game’s online servers, known collectively as PsyNet, leading to widespread matchmaking issues for players.

Psyonix has announced, via the Rocket League website, that the Lamborghini Huracán STO will be available for use in-game starting April 21. The luxury Italian automobile will be part of a bundle in the game’s Item Shop which will include the Huracán, two sets of wheels and unique cosmetic decals such as a banner and antennas. Some of these cosmetics can be seen in the YouTube trailer posted to Rocket League‘s channel. The announcement also reveals that Lamborghini will be partnering with Rocket League as the named partner of the upcoming Rocket League Championship Series X Lamborghini Open esports event, which starts on April 23.

Despite launching back in 2015, Rocket League has been able to maintain a strong player base even five years after release. Recent data suggests that as many as 90.5 million people played Rocket League at some point during March 2021, with anywhere between 205,000 and 290,o00 players online at a single time. These numbers are surprisingly high given the game’s age and niche gameplay, but its active esports scene may have a big role in boosting these player counts.

Rocket League has become an esports staple, with frequent events and tournaments held even five years after release. Lamborghini’s partnership with the game further demonstrates this persistent popularity, as a luxury car manufacturer probably wouldn’t bother with such a deal for a less prominent game. By bringing the Huracán to Rocket League, both Lamborghini and Psyonix are able to profit off the publicity.

Rocket League is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
