Rocket League is unlike any other competitive multiplayer game because it is all about physics. Players need to find the right angles and speed to get the ball to go exactly where they want, and getting better at Rocket League all starts with the right cars. Despite there being a massive number of cars to choose from, there are only a few that are viable when it comes to competitive play.

Rocket League was released in 2015, impressing players with its innovative gameplay. The physics-based, vehicular soccer game quickly formed a community of dedicated players, but – likely in part because of the game’s price tag – Rocket League‘s popularity dwindled over the next five years. That was until Epic Games acquired Psyonix, the developer behind Rocket League, and relaunched it as a free-to-play game. It was a great move for Rocket League to go free-to-play, but it also means there are new players who don’t understand the game’s mechanics. Mindlessly hitting the ball may work in lower-ranked play, but it won’t be effective against players who have been around for a while. Rocket League’s Best Cars: Octane

Although the Octane is the default vehicle that every Rocket League player starts with, it is also one of the best cars for competitive play. Many professional players use the Octane because of how its body matches its hitbox. Rocket League has just two different car hitbox shapes, despite every car having a different body model. The Octane almost perfectly matches its hitbox, which allows players to hit the ball more accurately. It also belongs to the group of cars that have a taller hitbox, meaning it can beat cars with shorter ones in challenges.

Rocket League’s Best Cars: Fennec

The Fennec is what some players are calling the new best car in Rocket League. It shares the same hitbox as the Octane, but its body shape is even more accurate to the hitbox. The Octane has a semi-pointed nose, whereas the Fennec is a rectangle. With the hitbox being a rectangle, as well, Fennec players will know exactly when their car is going to hit the ball. However, the Fennec has to be unlocked by redeeming Rocket League’s Blueprints.

Rocket League’s Best Cars: Breakout

The Breakout is another one of the three cars players have access to at the beginning of the game. It belongs to the shorter and wider hitbox family of cars, and many freestylers choose this car over the Fennec or Octane. While it may not win any challenges, it is is a great car for dribbling, air dribbling, and pinches. Its body also matches the hitbox better than most other cars of the short and wide family.

Rocket League’s Best Cars: Dominus

The Dominus is to the Breakout what the Fennec is to the Octane. It’s a better version of the Breakout, but players will have to unlock it. It is a little flashier than the Breakout, with its dual exhaust on its hood, but its shape is pretty much identical. Both cars share a rectangular body that matches their hitbox better than other short and wide cars.

These are the four best cars in Rocket League, two of which are free for all players. There are countless other vehicles in the game, but players are better off staying away from anything else if they want to climb the ranks towards Super Sonic Legend. Car selection boils down to how well the hitbox matches the visuals, and until Psyonix releases better car bodies, these four are the best Rocket League has to offer.
