Rockstar Knows GTA Online Players Want More Solo Content

In a recent interview with USA Today, Rockstar Games co-studio head, Rob Nelson, says that he knows players would like more solo content in Grand Theft Auto Online. The interview comes just days after Rockstar announced the newest update for GTA Online called The Contract which adds new gameplay to the game.

The new update is all about Dr. Dre and exploring his legacy in the California music scene. GTA‘s fictional city, Los Santos, is an homage to Los Angeles and players who are familiar with Dr. Dre will know that he was majorly influenced by the city as well. Players join longtime favorite Franklin Clinton to track down Dr. Dre’s lost phone, which, more importantly, has unreleased music on it. Players will be interacting and doing missions side by side with Franklin, instead of playing as Franklin himself. Since the events of the GTA 5 campaign, some time has passed and Franklin, looking much more mature, is now a successful business owner. Players are given missions and contracts they have to complete in order to get money and further progress the story.

In an interview with USA Today, Rob Nelson discussed the reasoning behind making The Contract completely beatable in solo mode. Nelson stated that this was in response to player complaints that there are not enough missions that can be beaten in solo mode.With this update, players are able to play on their own if they so choose. It is encouraging when studios and developers listen to fans and make changes in the directions of what they are looking for. As fans wait for the next Grand Theft Auto to release, this update should be an enjoyable update for those players who prefer to play solo, while still in an online setting.

The fact that this update is playable by solo players is an exciting change. There were very few updates that came to the game prior to this that allowed players to complete missions solo. Usually, the missions are very difficult to try to complete alone and some cannot even be started without other players joining in. The Cayo Perico Heist is the only heist released in GTA Online that players can complete solo. This update is a much-needed addition to the game and players who prefer to play on their own will likely enjoy the change of pace.

The Contract update is available to download now and is said to be about 10 hours’ worth of gameplay. It will also include some quality of life updates and have new weapons and vehicles for sale. There is also new music by Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg that will be played on a new radio station in GTA Online while players are driving around the city.  Hopefully, this will be a step towards getting more high-paying solo jobs in Grand Theft Auto Onlineand more opportunities for solo players to enjoy.
