Rumor: Assassin’s Creed 2022 Leak Reveals A Setting Unlike Any Other

Fans of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed have had a lot to dissect over the past few weeks. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla might be less than a year old, but a cascade of alleged leaks has come forth claiming to reveal where the next entry in the series will take place. Several Assassin’s Creed rumors have claimed it might be set anywhere from China to India, but a recent thread asserted that the upcoming title would actually unfold across multiple countries. Like previous Assassin’s Creed rumors, this newest information dump comes without any concrete evidence to back up its claims. The leak in question was posted on the PlayStation Trophies forum by an anonymous user named King Richard I. They claimed to have insider knowledge of what Ubisoft’s plans for the series will be moving forward and called Valhalla‘s sequel a “cross between old [Assassin’s Creed] and old Tomb Raider.” The leak also included key bits of release date and development details, and while there’s nothing to back this up at the moment, it could eventually turn out to be true like Ragnarok did.

When Will The Next Assassin’s Creed Game Release?

Fans anticipating another Assassin’s Creed release in 2021 might need to wait another year. King Richard I is yet another leaker claiming the next entry of the series won’t hit shelves until 2022. That release date window hasn’t been verified yet, but Ubisoft took a two-year gap between the release of Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in 2018, and that could be the case this time around. The COVID-19 pandemic has also disrupted developers’ workflow throughout the industry, so Ubisoft might need a bit more time to get its next project out of the door.

King Richard I’s post also mentioned that Ubisoft Sofia would be leading Assassin’s Creed 2022‘s development. Several other leaks have also claimed that studio would be put in charge of the series during this cycle. That would be a major shift in management for the franchise, seeing as Ubisoft’s Quebec and Montreal studios have been in charge of the series for years. The Sofia team has primarily been responsible for ports, like Prince of Persia Classic, and created the spin-off Assassin Creed 3: Liberation in 2012.

What Will Assassin’s Creed 2022 Be Called?

The alleged leak claimed the Ubisoft had drafted the title “Assassin’s Creed Knighthood” for its upcoming entry. With no way to confirm this claim, it’s impossible to say if that’s what the developer will actually name Valhalla‘s sequel. If King Richard I’s allegedly leaked Assassin’s Creed information is accurate, it’s more likely a codename like Ragnarok was for Valhalla.

When & Where Will Assasin’s Creed 2022 Take Place?

According to the rumor, Assassins Creed Knighthood will take place in seven different locations scattered around Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. King Richard I mentioned “a Greek island, an [Italian] city named Ragusa, Vienna, Jerusalem, Normandy, Venice, and Constantinople.” Unlike Valhalla, which featured two enormous maps of Scandinavia and the British Isles, Knighthood is said to be made up of “small hub worlds.” These areas will be far less sprawling than Valhalla‘s maps but make up for their lack of size with environmental diversity.

Users are said to be taking on the role of a knight under King Richard’s rule during the Third Crusade, which took place during 1189 and 1192. Both Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad and Maria Thorpe are said to reappear, but the leak didn’t explain their roles or their relationship with the alleged protagonist in detail. The rumored Assassin’s Creed Knighthood would be a major departure from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but only time will tell if this latest information dump is accurate.
