RuPaul’s Drag Race fan-favorite Eureka O’Hara has announced that they voluntarily admitted themselves into rehab. Eureka appeared on seasons 9 and 10 of RuPaul’s drag competition, as well as All-Stars 6. Outside of Drag Race, Eureka stars alongside Drag Race alums Shangela and Bob the Drag Queen on the HBO series We’re Here, where the three queens travel the country to introduce numerous rural communities to the artistry of drag. When not filming, Eureka O’Hara performs in drag performances around the US.

Compared to the other drag queens that have strutted the runway, Eureka’s Drag Race experience is a unique one. Eureka first appeared in season 9 as one of the main contenders but was forced to sashay away after suffering from an injury during one of the challenges. Luckily, RuPaul assured Eureka they’d be allowed to return for the tenth season of Drag Race where Eureka became a finalist. Shortly after filming, We’re Here, Eureka strutted into the Drag Race workroom again for All-Stars 6, where they made it to the top four. Eureka is famous for being one of the most vulnerable queens, encouraging others to share their truths on and off-camera. Eureka identifies as “genderfluid and gender-neutral” and uses they/them pronouns.

On Wednesday, Eureka confided to their Twitter followers that they checked themselves into rehab. While the reason for the rehabilitation or the location has yet to be known, Eureka confided in their Twitter followers about the news and experience so far, explaining that rehab was a necessary step. “It was time for me to get my addiction and mental self under control. I made this decision and it’s been really hard to be honest about it. I’m embarrassed! These are some of my first steps. I love you all so much!” Eureka revealed that they have been in rehab for over a week now, and already senses relief on the horizon.

Eureka continued by apologizing to their fans. “I’m so sorry and love you all! I’m sorry to myself. Ya know? but really feeling the blessings.” Luckily, Eureka was quick to receive an influx of support from their fanbase supporting their decision to seek help. One follower wrote, “Seeking help is never an embarrassment. You are lovely and strong and WILL get through this. Recovery begins with the first step and you’ve taken that. I believe in you.” Eureka went on to assure their followers that they would be returning to work mid-March for the ongoing RuPaul’s Drag Race LIVE! residency in Las Vegas’ Flamingo Hotel.

The lifestyle of a world-famous drag queen can be a hectic one, between the traveling performances and the near-constant night lifestyle. Eureka isn’t the first drag performer to halt their drag career for the sake of rehabilitation.Season 6 Miss Congeniality winner Katya Zamolodchikova has been vocal about her history of substance abuse as well. While Eureka has yet to reveal the source of their addictions causing the brief hiatus, the flood of support they have received will hopefully only continue to embolden their current journey toward relief. Drag Race fans will likely be delighted to see what the revitalized Eureka O’Hara will bring to future stages.
