Kahmora Hall became the first-eliminated queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 and joined the ranks of many legends from past seasons. On Drag Race, RuPaul and the fans have made it clear that losing is the new winning. This series is all about celebrating the stories and talents of LGBTQIA+ artists, and that mission statement is not just about the queens that win challenges or their seasons. Mama Ru established a solid tradition on the very first season of the show that none of the queens would go on to be forgotten, regardless of their overall placement.

At this point, the Drag Race fans have fully embraced the tradition of celebrating every queen that unfortunately ends up going home first. There’s so much preparation and pressure that go into competing on Drag Race – before, during, and after the show – that it’s only fitting to give the first-eliminated queens some much-needed love after they are told to pack their bags a week after finally getting on the show. On season 13, the producers also did a good job at rehashing the show’s format so that three episodes went by without an elimination, meaning that all the queens got plenty of screen time.

The list of first-eliminated queens on RuPaul’s Drag Race starts with the legendary Victoria “Porkchop” Parker on season 1. RuPaul is known for shouting this queen out whenever possible, and even incorporated her name into the Porkchop Lounge of season 13. Then came Shangela (season 2), Venus D-Lite (season 3), Alisa Summers (season 4), and Penny Tration (season 5). The season 6 premiere was split in two, which meant that two queens got the “first boot”: Kelly Mantle and Magnolia Crawford. Other queens that went home first are Tempest DuJour (season 7), Naysha Lopez (season 8), and Jaymes Mansfield (season 9). On season 10, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo broke the internet after being eliminated first and exiting with the iconic “Miss Vanjie” chant. Subsequent first-eliminated contestants were Soju (season 11) and Dahlia Sin (season 12). On the current season 13, Kahmora Hall was sent home first.

Looking at the group of first-eliminated Drag Race queens, there are quite a few iconic names to celebrate. Of note, contestants like Shangela and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo became high-profile drag superstars in their own right despite that original low placement on the show. It’s still too early to tell how Kahmora Hall will do post-show, but things are already looking great for her.
