The season 8 winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race shared with readers how she continues to express herself and be creative during the pandemic. Bob the Drag Queen says that self-expression doesn’t need to be over the top. Start by spicing up your morning coffee or wearing something funky on a video chat.

Bob the Drag Queen was the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race in season 8. Since taking the crown, Bob has been busy with her career. She’s appeared on The Pit Stop, alongside Trixie Mattel, which is an after-show for Drag Race. The drag queen was also a part of We’re Here, a reality show that follows Bob, Eureka O’Hara and Shagela Laquifa Wadley as they inspire their drag daughters to step into who they truly are. “All I can say is, we are very excited to be traveling even further than we have in our first season,” Bob said of the upcoming second season. “The looks are gonna be even better. We are truly hardworking.” More recently, Bob partnered with International Delight and talked about how she expresses herself on the daily after having her morning coffee.

Let’s face it, expressing yourself and maintaining creativity is tough during a pandemic. Bob the Drag Queen gave readers some insight into her morning routine and other ways she expresses herself. “If you’re going to have to do a video chat, alright? You don’t have to go from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Those days are done. You can put in extra effort from, like, the shoulders up, and just angle the camera [upwards], you know what I mean?” Bob suggested, insinuating that we all can fake it a little when we’re on camera. “While I’m a firm believer in going all out for a look, no one’s going to know if you’ve got plush slippers on a couple feet below the screen. Take advantage and own those house shoes.” But on a more serious note, the drag star added about appearance, “Don’t feel pressured, don’t let people make you feel bad…When choosing anything from an ensemble to a hairstyle to a pair of fake lashes, make sure you’re choosing them because they make you feel good, not because it’s what others are rocking. If you’re feeling good, you’re looking great.”

Other than rushing to get on a Zoom call in the morning, Bob gave a few more insights into her daily life. “I have a really minimalist morning routine. If you go through my medicine cabinet, there’s literally two things in there. A toothbrush and some toothpaste. That is it. I wash my face with baby shampoo and I keep it moving. That is my routine.” The season 8 winner added that she continues to express herself in drag amidst the pandemic. “So for me, the expression is more in the closet when I get dressed. You know what I mean? Out of drag, I wear a lot of flowy clothes, loose flowy garments. And then of course my drag medicine cabinet is riddled, riddled with makeup!

During the international pandemic, we’re all having to switch up our routines. Even though expression and creativity are more challenging, Bob the Drag Queen shows us that there’s always room for spice in our life, whether it’s with a morning coffee or a full-blown drag outfit. The season 8 RuPaul’s Drag Race winner also showed us that it’s okay to let loose and do what’s best for ourselves during this tough time!
