On the latest episode of Werq The World: The Docu-Series season 2, an unexpected wardrobe malfunction from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 11 winner Yvie Oddly caused Kim Chi to fall on stage, prompting Naomi Smalls to come to the rescue. Both Kim Chi and Naomi Smalls first appeared on Drag Race season 8, where they went on to compete in the finale but lost the crown to Bob the Drag Queen. After their time on the show, Kim and Naomi became the best of friends and went on work together on a few different occasions. In turn, Yvie Oddly competed on Drag Race season 11 and took the crown after winning the final lip sync against Brooke Lynn Hytes.

Since its first season, Werq The World: The Docu-Series has offered a rare peek at the touring lives of RuPaul’s Drag Race superstars. Each episode of the docu-series focuses on one queen in particular who is touring with other Drag Race alum on the global Werq The World Tour. Given the complex behind-the-scenes details of putting on a show for international audiences, the queens are bound to make mistakes, get emotional, and even occasionally bicker. For instance, in the first episode of the docu-series, Asia O’Hara opened up about being treated differently than other queens, offering her thoughts on racism within the Drag Race fandom. The second episode of the season focused on Yvie Oddly’s journey with health and fame, but it also featured an unfortunate situation that happened between her and Kim Chi.

The Los Angeles stop of the Werq The World Tour is one of the locations shown during Yvie Oddly’s episode on Werq The World: The Docu-Series season 2. The queens describe the Los Angeles stop as “one of the biggest shows [they’ve] ever had,” but Yvie Oddly is forced to assemble a brand-new outfit for the closing number. Yvie mentions that she spent some time backstage testing the outfit, which has a significant length of tulle wrapped around it. During the actual performance, however, Yvie’s planned outfit reveal does not work – prompting the queen to start ripping it apart and walk offstage. As Kim Chi moves on with the show, she accidentally steps on the tulle left behind from Yvie’s outfit and falls down on the stage. After the fall, Kim also has to hold onto her wig so that it doesn’t fall off her head. Immediately upon noticing the incident, Naomi Smalls stops performing to take the tulle off the stage and help Kim collect herself.

When speaking about the incident, Naomi says that she feels bad for what happened with Yvie’s outfit, but that it is “common sense” to not wear an outfit with that much tulle for a performance. Kim says that “[Yvie] clearly didn’t dress-rehearse in it. She just went offstage, but left all those yards of tulle on the floor.” Then, Kim adds, “If you’re just going to wrap sh*t around you, you should have rehearsed it. (…) [Now] everyone’s like, ‘Oh, there’s Kim Chi falling again,’ so then I look bad, when it wasn’t even my fault.” Later, Yvie explains that she didn’t see Kim’s fall, and that she only caught wind of the incident later that night when Plastique Tiara sent her a text message asking if she was going to apologize to Kim. Yvie looks like she is clearly ashamed and very sorry about the incident, but the queen also notes that “Four other girls skipped falling on my tulle, so sh*t happens.”

Kim concludes by saying, “It is her fault for not rehearsing in that outfit, but I’m sure it’s not her intention to sabotage anyone. I’m sure she’s beating herself over it.” Kim adds with a laugh that she is still mad about the fall, which indicates that Kim is angry about the isolated incident but has no problems with Yvie as a whole.
