Kandy Muse made an unforgettable impression on audiences during her run on RuPaul’s Drag Race, but her journey toward stardom has not ended with the end of filming season 13. As the recipient of the villain edit during her season, Kandy has faced a less traditional post-Drag Race career. Although Kandy left season 13 as an underdog, the Bronx queen has proved she will not be defined by her edit since her time after season 13.

Unfortunately, every season of RuPaul’s Drag Race forces one of their queen’s into the villain role. While it makes for compelling reality television, the unlucky contestant stuck with the malicious framing can face overwhelming scrutiny from fans. As one of Drag Race‘s original villains, Phi Phi O’Hara admitted she almost quit drag altogether due to the hate and death threats she received from fans following her performance on season 4. Kandy Muse has experienced similar bias from fans since her time on the reality competition series. From subtle forms of disagreement like having over 600,000 fewer Instagram followers than beloved competitor Gottmik, to fans aggressively attacking Kandy’s mother online, Muse has faced an uphill battle following her introduction to reality TV.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Kandy Muse has not let the hostility of Drag Race‘s combative fans spoil the fortuitous opportunities her performance in the competition provided for her. Kandy was quick to begin paving her own way following filming as she dropped a music video for her song “Sitting Alone In The VIP” in September 2020, just a couple of months before season 13 was announced. The music video was a collaboration with RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner Alaska and was based on a meme of Kandy Muse sitting alone in VIP. The video has received hundreds of thousands of views since its release. Kandy has continued to pursue a presence on YouTube through her collaboration with make-up artist Patrick Starrr. In addition to showing off her skills as a make-up artist and entertaining YouTube personality alongside Starr, Kandy provided insight into her fight with Tamisha Iman that angered fans. Kandy Muse expanded on her burgeoning YouTube career by appearing on fellow finalist Gottmik’s channel, indicating the New York City drag queen sees a future making content as a professional make-up artists.

Beyond YouTube, Kandy Muse has been spending her time since season 13 enjoying the experience and preparing herself for a career, unlike other Drag Race alumni. While the hate from fans is disappointing, Kandy shared that she has received messages of support from pop stars Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus since the season’s broadcasting. Although Kandy has not reconnected with her former drag sister and Drag Race alum Aja since filming as she has with Denali after their on-screen feud, Muse has been spending time with season 12 contender Dahlia Sin and her two daughters, Janelle No. 5 and Xunami Muse. As for Kandy’s future career endeavors, Muse revealed to Patrick Starrr that she is making music inspired by Lana Del Rey and dreams of making a lipstick line one day.

Kandy Muse had a rough experience on and after RuPaul’s Drag Race. From facing attacks on her mother from belligerent fans to exploring a career as a YouTube make-up artist, Kandy has made the most of her unconventional post-Drag Race journey. Whether a loving fan or a harsh critic, the undeniable charisma of Kandy Muse will keep this New York queen around long past her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
