In Rust, players can be whatever they want to be whether they aspire to be a pirate, salesman, or even a musical legend. While Rust presents itself as a gritty fight for survival that doesn’t allow the player to trust anyone, there are also a lot of fun and goofy moments to be had if the player knows where to look. One of the most unconventional ways of playing Rust is by picking up a musical instrument and playing to your heart’s content.

The only issue is that musical instruments aren’t all too common, and players need to know where to look to find these tools. Musical instruments may not come in handy during a fight with other players, but they may prevent one from happening. As well, players might be able to weasel their way into a powerful group if they know how to play a tune or two. Who doesn’t want a designated team member whose only job is to play music upon request?

Crafting Musical Instruments In Rust

First off, players won’t be able to find musical instruments in the wild. They are actually specialty items that can only be obtained through crafting. Second, musical instruments are only available to craft for players who have purchased Rust’s Musical Instrument DLC pack. Other players can obtain and play musical instruments if they loot one from a player or have one made by a player who owns the DLC, but the crafting recipes to make musical instruments are locked behind a paywall. However, once a player has bought the DLC the crafting recipes for all the musical instruments are available to them instantly. Here is every Musical Instrument recipe:

  • Acoustic Guitar – 50 wood and 10 cloth
  • Canbourine – 25 metal fragments
  • Cowbell – 35 metal fragments
  • Junkyard Drum Kit – 100 metal fragments and 200 wood
  • Jerry Can Guitar – 50 metal fragments and 25 wood
  • Pan Flute – 20 metal fragments and 5 cloth
  • Plumber’s Trumpet – 75 metal fragments
  • Sousaphone – 100 metal fragments
  • Shovel Bass – 75 metal fragments and 50 wood
  • Wheelbarrow Piano – 100 metal fragments and 200 wood
  • Xylobones – 50 bone fragments

All of the recipes require some of Rust’s most basic materials such as Metal Fragments and Wood. These aren’t difficult to come by, and smart players won’t have to craft more than one of each. Once the instrument is made, players can play notes using their number pad, or convert their entire keyboard to a wider range of notes by pressing “H”.

Rust can be played on PC.
