One of the most frustrating parts of playing Rust is not having the proper equipment to protect one’s self or their base. Players can feel as if they are bringing a knife to a gunfight when first starting out, and it can be hard to defend against hostile players. While working one’s way up the crafting tier list is a sure-fire method of obtaining the proper weaponry, Rust also allows players to get their hands on firepower pretty easily through the use of Locked Crates.

Every time a player leaves the safety of their base, they are risking their lives along with everything on their person. In the wee hours of a player’s journey, it can be hard to piece together equipment to properly protect themselves. Sure, cracking open barrels and looking inside supply drops may net the player with some clothing and a few tools, but even a wetsuit and a salvaged pickaxe won’t do much against an armored player with a shotgun. For players who are willing to take a risk, Locked Crates could be the quickest way of going from scrub to threat.

What Are Locked Crates In Rust

Locked Crates are exactly what their name implies: rare crates with high tier rewards that require players to unlock them. Luckily, players don’t need any special items to unlock them, they just need patience and luck. Locked Crates can be dropped at monuments on occasion by Chinook Helicopters or appear on Cargo Ships. When a crate has been dropped, it will appear on the player’s map. All the player needs to do is make their way to the Locked Crate and initiate a “hack” which will then start a countdown timer. Players will have to wait for 15 minutes for the crate to open, but during this time other players may come by to claim the spoils for themselves. If a player is lucky enough, they might be the only ones interested in the goods, or they can snag any of the leftovers.

Locked Crates carry an assortment of goodies from high tier armor, automatic weapons, powerful explosives, or even rare materials. Some items may not be as interesting as others, but every item found inside of a Locked Crate has a higher value than most. Not to mention, the weaponry found inside Locked Crates is much more powerful than anything a new player can craft. As well, the explosives found inside the crates will make it much easier to knock down the walls of enemy encampments.
