RWBY: After The Fall Novel Gave Team CFVY The Limelight

Team RWBY might be the focus of Rooster Teeth’s hit anime series but companion novel RWBY: After The Fall puts Team CFVY in the limelight. For seven seasons RWBY fans have followed the adventures of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long – AKA Team RWBY – as they battle to save the world of Remnant from the forces of evil. While other groups of huntresses and huntsmen – like Team JNPR, Team CRDL and Team RNJR – have featured in quite a few storylines, Ruby Rose and her teammates are obviously the heart of the series.

One crew that RWBY fans have seen relatively little of is Team CFVY. Made up of members Coco Adel, Fox Alistair, Velvet Scarlatina and Yatsuhashi Daichi, Team CFVY were a group of second-year students at Beacon Academy and appeared occasionally in the first few seasons of RWBY. They competed in the Vytal Festival tournament and fought in the Battle of Beacon but after the academy was destroyed by Salem and her Grimm, they faded into the background of the anime series.

In RWBY: After The Fall, however, Team CFVY are the main protagonists. Penned by award-winning YA writer E. C. Myers and published by Scholastic in 2019, the novel puts Team CFVY front and center and follows them after the events of the RWBY volume 3 finale “End Of The Beginning.” RWBY: After The Fall reveals Team CFVY transferred to Shade Academy in the desert kingdom of Vacuo to complete their training. When the team receives a distress call, they find themselves leading a mission to relocate a tribe of refugees from settlements destroyed by Grimm invasions to safety.

As Team CFVY escort the caravan across Vacuo’s harsh desert landscape, they uncover a plot spearheaded by a mysterious individual known as The Crown who is trafficking Remnant residents with powerful semblances with the help of a couple of traitorous veteran hunters. Alongside flashbacks that reveal more of Team CFVY’s time at Beacon Academy, RWBY: After The Fall also introduces a host of new Remnant characters like Shade Academy headmaster Professor Theodore, retired huntsman Edward Caspian and his grandson August.

A follow-up novel titled RWBY: Before The Dawn is set for release in July 2020. Picking up where RWBY: After The Fall left off, the book will follow Team CFVY after their return to Shade Academy where they are working hard to discover the identity of The Crown to bring down their trafficking ring with the help of Team SSSN.
