Ryan Reynolds reacts to John Krasinski’s admission that he cried while watching The Adam Project. Following the streaming success of 2020’s Red Notice, Reynolds reunited with Free Guy director Shawn Levy for yet another Netflix project, The Adam Project. In addition to Reynolds, the new sci-fi/adventure film stars Walker Scobell, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña, Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener, and Alex Mallari Jr.

The Adam Project sees Reynolds play Adam Reed, a fighter pilot from the year 2050 who travels back in time to search for his wife. After crash landing in 2022, Adam teams up with his younger self and, at some point in time, his scientist father to confront familial issues and advert a perilous future. Reynolds has said that The Adam Project harkens back to Spielbergian classics like E.T.Back to the Future, and The Goonies, which represent a sort of wish-fulfillment that can make viewers both laugh and cry. Following the film’s release last week, both critics and audience reactions to The Adam Project are proving Spielberg’s films an apt comparison to Reynolds’ Netflix movie.

Krasinski recently took to Twitter to quote The Adam Project and reveal some classified information: he shed tears while watching the movie. He tweeted at Reynolds, thanking him for bringing back his childhood. Reynolds has now responded with a similar sentiment, admitting “Tears were shed reading [Krasinski’s post].” Check it out below:

In the years since his time as Jim Halpert on The Office, Krasinski has become a director to watch on top of his on-screen acting work. Following his 2016 directorial debut in The Hollars, he went on to helm A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. Last year, Reynolds took to social media to praise Krasinski’s on the latter sequel. The pair of Hollywood stars are real-life friends, and have been trying to work together for quite some time. In fact, Krasinski’s next directorial project, Imaginary Friends, will also see him star alongside Reynolds, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Fiona Shaw.

Krasinski isn’t the only one of Reynolds’ friends who has taken to social media praising The Adam Project. Almost immediately after the film dropped on Netflix, Hugh Jackman took a break from his “feud” with Reynolds to recommend the film. Overall, The Adam Project has 69% critics score and an 80% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. What’s more, in the wake of its critical and (presumably) commercial success, the news broke that its director was in talks to reunite with Reynolds for a third collaboration, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3. While there’s no guarantee tears will be shed watching that film, there will almost certainly be laughter.
