Sandra Bullock gives an honest and self-deprecating answer to the rumors that she might be cast in a future Spider-Man movie. All kinds of Marvel projects lead to casting rumors, but the Spider-Man franchise in particular has been ripe for dramatic online reports within the past year. In addition to the hugely secretive Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is in the midst of further developing its own Spider-Man universe with movies like Morbius and Kraven the Hunter. Those will arrive on the heels of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which debuted in October to box office success.

In 2019, news broke that Sony is developing a movie centered on Madame Web, a supporting Spider-Man character who often assists the hero on his adventures. Morbius writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless were attached to pen the script. Beyond that, little else was announced, and few updates have emerged since. Despite that, fans were quick to share their ideas for who could play Madame Web in either the standalone film or Spider-Man: No Way Home. Oscar winner Bullock emerged as a viable option, with fan art of the actress as Madame Web quickly circulating online.

At long last, Bullock was confronted with these rumors in a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel asked her if she’d heard the rumor that she would appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and she first joked that if her son had heard it, “do you know how much I would get him to do in the house?” After quipping back and forth for a bit longer, Kimmel asked Bullock if she’s ever been approached by Marvel for a role. Her answer was rather surprising:

I don’t think I’m Marvel material. I don’t… I’ve never been approached by Marvel. Never.

Bullock is one of the most popular actresses of the past couple decades, though recent years have seen her slow down her output. Her last two films were back in 2018 (Ocean’s Eight and Bird Box), though she’s set to return in a major way with three back-to-back movies: The Unforgivable, The Lost City of D, and Bullet Train. A role in a Marvel movie would further push her back into the spotlight, though according to Bullock herself, it doesn’t seem to be in the cards for her.

Despite the fact that she feels she isn’t Marvel material, though, Bullock did say the role of Madame Web sounded amazing, if only because then she could get her son to do more around the house. Sony is still in development on the Madame Web movie, so perhaps there could eventually be some truth to these rumors. As for Spider-Man: No Way Home, it feels like practically everyone in Hollywood has been rumored to appear within it. It seems unlikely Madame Web will turn up, but Spider-Man fans will still get to see for themselves when the movie premieres next month. And if anyone is interested in seeing Bullock join the Marvel universe, then maybe they should get vocal over on social media to prove she really is Marvel material.
