As fans know, Sex & the City was a television series about four best friends: There was the writer and fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw; the PR pro and flirt, Samantha Jones; the sarcastic lawyer, Miranda Hobbes; and Charlotte York, a picturesque housewife who enjoyed and excelled at keeping house, baking, running a family and looking adorable in designer dresses and pearls.

Of course, there was far more to her than her marriage, her household and her wardrobe, and like everyone else on TV, she was made up of positive and negative quirks and characters. In fact, her five best and five worst traits are listed out below!

10 Judgmental

First up, Charlotte could be judgmental. She came from an affluent family, with certain expectations, and being raised in a well-to-do home meant that she could sometimes look down on and judge others.

Her best friends knew that she was actually a sweetheart, but there were even times when she would make them feel bad about their decisions and lives.

9 Learned To Be More Down-To-Earth

As the story progressed, the characters grew, changed and transformed, as they learned lessons and matured. For Charlotte, this means she became more down-to-earth.

Sure, she still enjoyed the finer things in life and preferred a polished and pretty life. But she loosened up, let go off some of her judgmental ways and started to go with the flow a bit more.

8 Desperate

Part of Charlotte’s expectations were that she imagined marrying a prince charming, starting the cutest family and living happily ever after. Her marriage to Trey MacDougal, though, ended in a divorce, and after that, she acted sort of desperate.

It made sense, as everyone wants someone to love. But seeing her feel so reliant on men, go on awful date after awful date and put so much pressure on herself… None of that was positive or pretty.

7 Found True Love

When she least expected it, she fell in love with Harry Goldenblatt. Upon first glance, these two did not seem like a match, and Charlotte tried to fight it. It was meant to be, though, and not only did she end up with her fairy tale ending, but she learned some valuable lessons.

She realized that appearances were not as important as she thought, and she was able to find and have more joy in life, due to Harry’s goofy vibe!

6 Intimacy Issues

In just Charlotte’s relationships with Trey and Harry, there were some intimacy issues. For instance, Charlotte was worried about Trey’s performance as she was getting ready to walk down the aisle, and it only got worse after they tied the knot. Then, she wanted to be with Harry simply for the sex, but she ended up falling hard for him.

While no relationship is perfect, it was sad to see Charlotte settle and/or take advantage of situations, when she could have stood up and gotten what she needed and wanted sooner.

5 Gave & Received Love In A Whole New Way

As mentioned, it was beautiful to see Charlotte find a happy marriage, and once she was with Harry, she was able to give and receive love in a whole new way. Her eyes were open, for the first time in her life, and she was happier than she had ever been.

This helped her show care and kindness to her pals like never before (mostly due to not being as judgemental and as focused on finding a man), and it allowed her to fully love herself, as well, which was so vital.

4 Superficial

Just as Charlotte could look down on people, she could also be superficial. As mentioned, she was from a well-off household, and she lived quite the life in NYC.

However, all of the main women (some more than others) could put too much emphasis on material items and their outward appearances.

3 Developed An Iconic Sense Of Style

A good thing about Carrie’s, Samantha’s, Miranda’s, and Charlotte’s styles and lives were that they all had these distinct and special fashion senses. For Charlotte, there were a lot of sweet dresses, fine jewels and cardigans.

As the show went on, this style elevated, and she had some real Breakfast At Tiffany’s moments!

2 Too Traditional

A final item on the list of her not-so-great traits would be that she could get stuck on traditionalism; the way she was raised, the expectations in her life, the way she dressed, the interactions with romantic partners…

She got very stuck on having to live a certain way, and when things, of course, did not go exactly as planned, she would be sad and stressed.

1 Started Standing Up For Herself

Part of her growth, though, was shaking off all that old baggage, becoming someone new, and gaining real confidence.

From her jobs and her boyfriends to her friendships and her enemies, she started to stand up for herself, which was so inspiring.
