Fans are theorizing that Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones would be a perfect fit for a crossover cameo in Emily in Paris season 3. Emily in Paris season 2 just debuted on Netflix on December 22, premiering at #2 on Netflix’s list of top 10 series of the week, right behind the long-awaited new season of The Witcher with Henry Cavill. The show, which follows a young woman who experiences culture shock when she crosses the Atlantic to start a job at a marketing firm in Paris, was created by Darren Star, who created the iconic comedy series Sex and the City back in 1998.

Sex and the City has also returned to the small screen this year in the follow-up series And Just Like That, which premiered on HBO Max on December 9. The series reunites lead characters Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) and follows their stories as they proceed through their 50’s. The show is notably missing major character Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), who – in the universe of the series – has moved to London after Carrie fired her as a book publicist, causing a rift between herself and all the other Sex and the City gals.

One of the plot points in Emily in Paris season 2 is the introduction of a new love interest named Alfie, played by British actor Lucien Laviscount. Considering the fact that the Sex and the City universe and that of Emily in Paris were both shepherded to the screen by Darren Star, they see some real crossover potential. Samantha Jones is already canonically in London, which is just across the channel from Paris. Suggestions made by fans on Twitter include either having Emily visit Alfie in London and encounter Samantha or having Samantha become her boss at a new job at a PR firm, though some fans’ insistence that the show move to London permanently seems like an impossibility considering the title of the series. Cattrall is still hard at work in the world of television. Soon she will be seen as the grown-up version of Hilary Duff’s character in How I Met Your Father, which premieres on Hulu on January 18, 2022. She also starred as Margaret Monreaux on the 2020 Fox family drama Filthy Rich, which was created by Tate Taylor, and has recently joined Peacock’s upcoming reboot of Queer as Folk.

Although it would certainly depend on schedules, intellectual property rights, and other more mundane concerns, it’s entirely possible for Kim Cattrall to appear on Emily in Paris, either as Samantha Jones or a similar character. The reported reason that she isn’t appearing on And Just Like That is a long-standing feud with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker rather than any animosity toward the show or the character. If she is allowed to reprise the role without having to interact with the rest of the Sex and the City world and its baggage, there is a possibility that she would jump at the opportunity.
