As Schitt’s Creek grew into a phenomenon, Moira Rose quickly became a new television icon. She is responsible for many of the show’s best moments, from her disastrous wine commercial to her hysterical “fold in the cheese” scene with David. But some of Moira’s best moments get overlooked by fans.

She is such a large and unique personality that nearly everything she says or does is compelling. As she deals with small-town life, spends time with family, and performs in her own bizarre way, these underrated moments of Moira Rose should not be forgotten.

10 Making A Tourism Video For Schitt’s Creek

As memorable and great as the wine commercial is, Moira has another spokesperson moment that deserves some love as well. After badmouthing Schitt’s Creek in an interview, Moira agrees to appear in a tourism ad for the town.

While the town of Schitt’s Creek changed the Roses for the better, Moira isn’t quite comfortable praising it, even refusing to same its name. It is a great juxtaposition of Moira using her over-the-top personality to try and sell the town’s simpler way of life.

9 Dealing With A Customer

There are a lot of strange things about the Rosebud Motel that might turn off most guests but having Moira at the front desk is the worst of them all. When Johnny and Stevie need help, Moira reluctantly agrees to deal with the customers, which she does in her own way.

When one particularly needy customer looks to check it, Moira gives him a few moments of her attention before totally losing interest and dismissing him. It is a great example of how Moira can be so rude and inconsiderate but does it in such an entertaining way.

8 Singing Danny Boy At A Funeral

One of the funniest and most bizarre plots in the show is when Johnny is asked to give a eulogy to a local man whom he never met. As Johnny is in the midst of the speech, it goes off the rails, leading to Moira saving him with a rendition of “Danny Boy.”

As if the random and unexplained musical moment wasn’t funny enough, Moira is asked to perform it again at the reception. Catherine O’Hara really has fun with the absurdity of the moment, singing the song so slowly that the episode ends before she even finishes the first line.

7 Slapping Roland

Though he has his sweet moments, Roland is one of Schitt’s Creek‘s more obnoxious characters. He can be really irritating which is perhaps why this moment is so satisfying to watch.

When Johnny needs a signature from Roland as mayor, Roland first asks for Moira to slap him as she does on her former soap opera. Though she is reluctant, Roland gets so annoying she delivers one of the most epic slaps in TV history. It is even enough to silence Roland for a while — which is quite the feat.

6 Quarantining Her Whole Family

While it is clear she loves her children, Moira’s parenting decisions on Schitt’s Creek are often questionable. It can seem like she thinks of herself first and children second as evidenced by the scene in which Alexis has the flu.

It is a classic bit of Moira’s overreacting as she immediately begins treating it like some terrible disease. Watching her lock the rest of the family into the other room to save herself is priceless and shows how Moira can turn anything into melodrama.

5 Buying A Car With Johnny

It seems as though Moira will find any excuse to bust out her acting skills — even if the situation really doesn’t call for it. When shopping for a new car, Johnny suggests they should appear more blue-collar in order to get a better deal.

The choice Moira goes with is to create a character who seems to be out of some bad Charles Dickens novel. It feels as if Moira totally lost sight of what the objective was and the whole situation suddenly revolves around this strange and implausible character she has created.

4 Helping Jocelyn When She Is In Labor

It’s hard to think of a character who would be less helpful in a stressful situation than Moira Rose. So it is bad luck for Jocelyn that, when she goes into labor, Moira is the only one around. As would be expected, the moment quickly becomes all about Moira.

To be fair, Moira is supportive and stays with Jocelyn, showing a selfless side of her that is quite rare. But the fact that Moira had Jocelyn drive to the hospital as she sat in the backseat is something only Moira could pull off.

3 Moira Wonders If She Is Approachable

Moira is so oblivious to how she appears to the world that it becomes charming. Even in a small town like Schitt’s Creek, she doesn’t seem to realize how much her personality and way of dressing stand out among the locals.

When Moira runs for the city council, she begins to question if she is approachable. But when she asks David his opinion, she can’t even pose it as a question, simply saying, “I am approachable,” as if there is no possible alternative.

2 Her Awkward Lunch With Alexis

Though they had some great scenes together, it felt like the show could have had so many more mother-daughter moments between Moira and Alexis. They are so similar in many ways but also can’t seem to connect with each other.

When they force themselves to go to lunch with each other, Moira has to prepare beforehand by writing down questions on cue cards to ask Alexis. While it is a bit pathetic, it is also sweet that she was trying so hard.

1 Observing Johnny’s Babysitting Skills

After Johnny unwisely volunteers himself to babysit Roland Jr., Moira wants no part of it. However, as Johnny struggles with the baby crying and changing the diapers, Moira can’t help but offer her own unhelpful comments, like “Isn’t it scheduled to be dormant by now?”

Despite having kids of her own, it is hilarious how out of her element Moira seems with handling a bébé. It is as if this is the first infant she has everencountered and is curious about how they work. Of course, she is not curious enough to help out Johnny in any way.
