There are so many reasons to love the hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek that it’s hard to identify just which are responsible for its success. However, there’s no question that the relationships that exist between and among the main characters is a big part of the show’s appeal.

The marriages of John and Moira and Jocelyn and Roland are truly extraordinary, in that they are two couples who, despite years of marriage, are still very much in love. Which, however, truly deserves the title of the best couple? As it turns out, they both have some good reasons to think that they are the one true pairing.

10 Johnny & Moira: Their Longevity

By the time that the show begins, it’s clear that Moira and Johnny have been together for quite a long time. Given how common divorce is, both in the real world and in the sitcom world, this is something of an accomplishment.

These are clearly two people who love each other enough to stick it out through thick and thin, no matter what life happens to throw at them (and it’s clearly been a lot). It’s impossible not to admire the gumption of two people willing to put in the hard work to make the relationship last.

9 Roland & Jocelyn: Their Mutual Love Of Their Son, Mutt

It’s hard to imagine how challenging it must be for Jocelyn and Roland to have a son like Mutt, someone who’s clearly a bit on the free spirit side of things, with all that that entails.

However, they make it clear time and again that they love their son unconditionally, and while they might not always agree with the choices that he makes in life, he knows that they will be in his corner when the chips are down and he has no one else.

8 Johnny & Moira: They Support Each Other’s Career Choices

Both Johnny and Moira are very driven sorts of people, determined to make a go of it in their various endeavors: Johnny as a businessman and Moira as an actress.

While their relative careers have a few bumps along the way, they both make it clear to one another, on several occasions, that they will support the other one in any way that they can. It’s rather refreshing to see a couple determined to succeed in their marriage, not despite but because of their chosen careers.

7 Roland & Jocelyn: Jocelyn Puts Up With A Lot

Let’s be quite real about something. Jocelyn puts up with a lot from Roland. Time and again, Roland shows that he’s a bit of a twit, not just with the way that he perpetually annoys the Roses (particularly Johnny), but also in the way that he acts with Jocelyn (such as when he becomes very needy after she becomes unexpectedly pregnant).

Anyone able and willing to put up with Roland as long as Jocelyn has definitely deserves some sort of medal.

6 Johnny & Moira: Johnny Puts Up With A Lot

On the other hand, it has to be said that Johnny also puts up with Moira. While she’s not exasperating in the same way as Roland, she is nevertheless one of those people who needs constant attention and support, and she can be at times quite annoying.

Luckily for her, Johnny is the kind of person who has a natural affinity for that sort of thing, and he’s able to support her at every key moment of her life, through the ups and the downs of her return to acting (as well as some of her other behaviors that sometimes don’t make sense).

5 Roland & Jocelyn: They Endured An Unexpected Pregnancy

Pregnancy is always something that’s very difficult, but it’s especially trying when it’s an accident, which is just what happens to Jocelyn. For a lot of people, this might have been the breaking point for their marriage, but somehow Roland and Jocelyn not only made it work; they found new ways to love and be happy.

One has to give them a lot of credit for taking it all in stride and continuing to show their obvious love and affection for one another, and one has to credit the show for taking on such a heavy subject.

4 Johnny & Moira: They Endured Losing Literally Everything

Fans of the show will recall that the crisis that sets the entire narrative in motion is the Roses’ loss of literally all of their wealth and material possessions except for the town of Schitt’s Creek. It’s one of the saddest things about Johnny (and Moira, for that matter).

For a lot of couples, this would have created a strain that was too much for their relationship to endure, but somehow Johnny and Moira overcame that and, in fact, it seems like their relationship only got stronger as a result of their tremendous hardship.

3 Roland & Jocelyn: They Both Have Their Own Lives

Some couples become more than a little codependent, unable to do anything unless it’s with the other. That’s definitely not the case with Roland and Jocelyn. In fact, each of them seems content to have their own lives and interests that they don’t always share with the other.

Jocelyn is both a teacher and is in charge of the Jazzagals, and Roland is the mayor and seems to enjoy being a key part of the running of the town (which is a pretty great place in some key ways).

2 Johnny & Moira: They Will Do Anything For One Another

Time and again throughout the show’s run, Johnny and Moira made it clear that they were absolutely willing to do everything they could for the other. Sometimes, of course, this entailed making a few sacrifices, but they did it anyway.

Most importantly, who could ever forget the time that Moira helped to create that beautiful Christmas gathering, all because she knew that it was what Johnny really wanted?

1 Roland & Jocelyn: They Still Find One Another Attractive

It’s not always easy to keep the physical aspect of a relationship alive. In fact, it’s not uncommon for people to not think about their partner in romantic terms as time goes on. That clearly hasn’t happened with Roland and Jocelyn, however, and time and again they show how much they still find one another appealing.

This is rather refreshing, and it helps people to understand and appreciate that amorous affection doesn’t always have to fade as one grows into a relationship.
