In Schitt’s Creek, Ted Mullins is the town’s vet and Alexis’s charming boyfriend. Ted is one of the kinder characters on the show who is always putting the needs of others first and offering to help in any way that he can.

With his selfless attitude and his considerable intelligence, Ted is able to provide a lot of people with very solid advice. He helps steer them in the right direction and even inspires them to be better people. But sometimes Ted’s desire to be helpful doesn’t work out and his advice misses the mark. Have a look at some of Ted’s words of wisdom as well as those that were not so wise.

10 Best: David’s Anxiety Attack

Ted is first introduced in the show when David begins experiencing a health scare. With no other doctors around, Stevie takes David to see Ted at the animal hospital.

While David is convinced he is having a heart attack, Ted assures him it is not as serious as all that. Despite this being outside his area of medicine, Ted is able to diagnose David with an anxiety attack which David admits makes sense given the huge changes in his life.

9 Worst: Alexis’ Cleanse

Ted is very good at looking out for the well-being of others. But while his heart seems to always be in the right place, sometimes he can overstep his bounds. In one rare instance, he is downright mean to Alexis in public.

When she tries to convince him that he should send his food back to the cafe since it is not what he ordered, Ted mocks her in front of Twyla, saying that Alexis’ new cleanse is making her angry. He then tells Alexis that he doesn’t like what the cleanse is doing to her, which seems a bit controlling.

8 Best: Lice

Alexis’s decision to go back to school and start her professional life is very admirable. Unfortunately, she doesn’t always have an easy time in a high school setting and is mortified when she contracts lice.

Her family is predictably disgusted by the idea of lice which just makes Alexis feel worse than she already does. Thankfully, Ted is a much more sensitive person and he helps assure Alexis that there is nothing to be ashamed of while also helping her get rid of them.

7 Worst: Alexis And His Friends

Even though Ted and Alexis’s first shot at romance was a bit bumpy, when they finally get back together, it really seems to click right away. Unfortunately, Ted’s friends appear to be less forgiving.

When Alexis is preparing to meet all of Ted’s buddies during a Christmas party, he suggests they tell them Alexis baked all the cookies to make her look better. He then tells Alexis that they all agreed to give her one last chance which does not help ease her mind.

6 Best: Alexis At The Job

Before they begin exploring their romance together again, Ted and Alexis reunite on a professional level. Ted hires Alexis to work as his assistant at the vet clinic. While that might seem like an unwise business decision at first, Ted proves to be a very good boss.

Despite their history together, Ted always expects Alexis to do her best and is not afraid to call her out when she is slacking off. He inspires her to be more professional but also encourages her when she shows talents he did not know she had.

5 Worst: Shaming Alexis

Ted is a very nice guy and in most cases that is a good thing. However, Alexis is not used to dating such caring and considerate people so she starts to think Ted is incapable of getting angry.

Alexis tries to convince him that it’s okay to get angry sometimes and he should be able to vent. With that encouragement, Ted begins insulting Alexis’ family. And when he gets a little too carried away with things, he tells Alexis she should stop being such a freeloader which she points out is going too far.

4 Best: Getting Through A Break-Up

When Ted comes back into the picture, Alexis is surprised to find him happy and seems to be coping with their break-up extremely well. When she finds herself heartbroken following her break-up with Mutt, she asks how he managed to rebound so well.

Ted clarifies that it was not easy for him and the break-up really hurt him at the time. All he did was take time for himself, not try to forget about it, but rather come to terms with itand move on.

3 Worst: Taking A Break… Then Marriage

Ted is such a nice guy that when he proposes to Alexis, she has a hard time just telling him no. This leads Ted to think they are still together and will eventually get married though that is clearly not what Alexis wants.

Finally, Ted is able to pick up on the hints enough to come up with a new plan. He thinks that he and Alexis need to slow down and take some time apart, then come back together and that’s when they’ll get engaged. He was so close, but still so far.

2 Best: Alexis Should Stay

The perfect relationship Alexis and Ted find themselves in hits a snag when Ted is offered a great research job in the Galapagos Islands that will take him away for an extended period of time.

Initially, they both agree that long distance is too hard so Alexis agrees to go as well. But after staying behind for a few weeks, her own professional life starts to take off, and suddenly leaving is more complicated. As she grapples with the decision, Ted steps in and tells her not to come as she cannot give up her current opportunities.

1 Worst: Vacationing In The Galapagos

When Ted is first offered the position in the Galapagos, he is more secretive about what it means for his career. Instead, he suggests he and Alexis go on a vacation, but when she suggests tropical beaches, he keeps suggesting the Galapagos.

If the decision was really so important to Ted, he shouldn’t have presented it as a romantic vacation. He knew he would be working and that Alexis wouldn’t enjoy it, so it is really his own fault when she is not as enthusiastic about the idea.
