Scrat’s Baby Revealed In Disney+ Ice Age Short Poster (They’re Adorable)

Ice Age: Scrat Tales has a new poster showing its titular character and his new infant son. The six-part series of animated shorts is coming to Disney+ on April 13, just a few months after the feature film, Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild, premiered on the streaming platform. Scrat Tales will continue following the misadventures of the saber-toothed squirrel as he seeks to find and protect his beloved acorns. Chris Wedges is returning to voice the role, with Karl Wahlgren playing Baby Scrat. So far, no other voice actors or characters have been announced.

Scrat has become one of the most popular characters from Ice Age since appearing in the first film in 2002, and the next four films after that. When Scrat did not appear in Buck Wild, the first Ice Age film to drop on Disney+ since the studio’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, some reports circulated that Disney had lost the rights to Scrat and opted to discontinue use of the character. With the announcement of Scrat Tales, however, that appears not to be the case.

The new Ice Age: Scrat Tales poster is like a parody of The Lion King, showing Scrat hoisting an acorn into the air, while his infant son holds tightly onto the coveted nut. With the tagline, “The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree,” Disney+ hints that the sabre-toothed squirrel’s offspring will share the same obsessions as his father. Check out the poster below.

Expectations are fairly low for Scrat Tales after Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild received generally poor reviews upon its Disney+ release. Still, the popularity of the character and introduction of his baby offers plenty of intrigue. There’s no word on who Baby Scrat’s mother is – so far, Scrat’s only romantic involvement has been a complicated relationship with a female squirrel, Scratte, who seems to have cut ties with her lover after running away with his acorn in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Viewers should learn the answer in the first Scrat Tales short, during which the titular squirrel ancestor is supposed to meet his son for the first time.

Despite low expectations, younger audiences will surely enjoy Scrat’s comedic antics and the adorable baby squirrel following suit. Scrat Tales likely won’t be winning any Oscars (nor is it intending to do so), but Disney still has the task of reviving the Ice Age franchise after Buck Wild’s less-than-stellar reception. Perhaps Scrat Tales will offer a glimpse at whether the film series is poised for a promising future under Disney.
