With the upcoming release of the newest installment in the Scream franchise, a fan has taken to the internet to post Goosebumps-inspired fan art for the new film. Much is still unknown about the upcoming film, except that main series cast members, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette will all be returning. It is also known that the directors of the film, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, do not think of this film as simply a fifth installment in the series, leaving fans to speculate wildly.

What is known about the new film comes from the trailers that have been released online over the last year. While each trailer features its fair share of Campbell, Cox and Arquette, they also show off a lot of the “new blood” who will appear in the film. Each of the three trailers released so far have begun by showing clips of a scene where a character played by Jenna Ortega is terrorized by Ghostface in her own house. The scene is very reminiscent of the opening scene in the original Scream film, where the character portrayed by Drew Barrymore meets her end.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

It was this very scene that seemed to capture the imagination of Twitter user Alex Vincent (@thealexvincent). The official Scream Twitter page recently shared the artist’s work, which depicts the scene from the new film as a book cover similar to the original Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine. Vincent has done some excellent work giving the scene a vintage makeover. The image depicts Ortega’s character, Tara, crouched behind a bloody door, while a murderous Ghostface attempts to get in from the other side. The image is set against a book which has been designed to look worn, just as many fans may remember seeing the older Goosebumps books in school libraries and other such places. Check out the image below:

This nostalgic fan art is sure to continue building anticipation for the newest Scream. Indeed, with Cox, Arquette, and Campbell returning, much of the excitement surrounding the movie’s release is likely coming from longtime, nostalgic fans. However, Scream appears to have way more to offer with new characters, new situations, and what will hopefully be a good balance of fresh storylines and callbacks to the original.

Scream has been inspiring moviegoers since the release of the first film back in 1996. It’s been over two decades, but the fanbase continues to grow in size and passion for the series, as can be seen in fan artists such as Vincent and others like him. Perhaps, even more artists will feel inspired to leave their mark on the series after 2022’s Scream premieres in theaters next month.
