The songs played throughout 2022’s Scream perfectly match the tone of the film, the soundtrack drawing viewers back to Woodsboro once again. The soundtrack to the movie blends songs from multiple genres. Pop, alternative, indie, and hip-hop can all be found in the newest entry into the Scream series. Viewers will recognize some familiar favorites and can also expect to come across a few songs they’ve never heard.

The movie itself takes heavy inspiration from the first film, but Scream 2022 ups the gore and violence, and the soundtrack brings it into the 2020s. The music is important to update the movie while still hanging onto the original’s atmosphere. Most of the songs are heard during the party in a contrast to the original. Rather than having the characters all sit down to enjoy a movie together, playing music over their house party reminds viewers that even though they’re in the same place, they are in a different time period. In addition, the film is primarily backed by a wonderful score by the Emmy-nominated Brian Tyler.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The plot of the new movie is purposefully similar to the plot of the first movie and includes characters who survived the original Scream movies. The Scream soundtrack allows viewers to feel what audiences in 1996 did. Instead of watching a scary movie from the 90s, audiences get to be as involved as those who experienced the original Scream in theaters 25 years ago by watching another meta-horror updated to match the experiences of modern audiences. Below is a full list of the songs in Scream 2022’s soundtrack.

“Just Us” by DJ Khaled ft. SZA – This song begins playing as Scream character Samantha (Melissa Barrera) is sitting on the curb outside the bowling alley where she works. Samantha is with her boyfriend Richie (Jack Quaid), and she gets a call from Wes (Dylan Minnette) saying that her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) was attacked.

“The American Scream” by Alkaline Trion – “The American Scream” plays as the audience first meets Scream 2022’s teenage characters. They are sitting outside the high school discussing Tara’s attack.

“Turn to Hate” by Orville Peck – This Orville Peck song plays inside the bar where the teens are hanging out. Vince (Kyle Gallner) arrives to harass Liv (Sonia Ben Ammar) and Chad (Mason Gooding) threatens to beat him up.

“Red Right Hand” by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – This song plays after Vince exits the bar. Someone is shining his car lights at him too bright for him to see. The car is empty, and “Red Right Hand” is playing on the radio in a suspenseful scene unique to the reboot, that reminds viewers why it was one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2022.

“Pressure” by Kamaiyah – Tara realizes she can’t find her inhaler, so she, Samantha, and Richie decide to go to Amber’s (Mikey Madison) house, which happens to be Stu’s (Matthew Lillard) old house. The scene cuts to the party Amber is hosting in Wes’ honor. “Pressure” plays before Amber goes down to the basement for alcohol and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) confronts her.

“Guilty Conscience” by 070 Shake – Liv and Chad are making out at the party when this song plays. Liv tells Chad she’s ready to have sex with him, but he turns her down because he isn’t certain that she’s not the killer in a scene highly reminiscent of director Wes Craven’s original movie. Liv gets up and angrily leaves.

“Awe Sh*t!” by The Alkaholiks – “Awe Sh*t!” continues playing at the party after Liv walks away from Chad.

“Fall In Love” by Caroline Kingsbury – This Caroline Kingsbury song plays during the party. Chad gets a text from Liv’s phone telling him to track her phone. The song can still be heard coming from the house as Chad goes outside to find her.

“High Priestess” by Santigold – This song plays as Tara, Samantha, and Richie arrive at Amber’s house. Amber then tells everyone the party is over.

“Fall Out of Love” (Scream 5 Version) by Salem with additional vocals by Carlie Hanson – “Fall Out of Love” plays over the closing credits to the movie.

“I Don’t Want To Talk” by Wallows – This song plays throughout the remainder of the closing credits for Scream.
